I was watching Inside the NFL on HBO and they were showing the highlights of the Dolphins win over Carolina. Among the clips was a moment right after Schulter's interception where JT, Carter, and Holliday were gathered on the sideline while Holliday chuckled how Lance swore all game that he was going to jump that route.

I sat there thinking how unfair it must be for offenses to face that much talent. I'm serious. Granted, it's veteran talent, but man is that some saavy veteran talent right there among those 3 men. There was such a confidence oozing from all three of them like, "look at who I'm playing next to." Then you go on to realize that Keith Traylor's in the middle anchoring that line, Zach and Junior are rackin' up tackles right behind them.

Now, if only our secondary had that kind of talent.

Our front seven have been making a living out of shutting down some pretty dang good running backs! The goal line stands have been outstanding:D

it did and we traded it away

Don't even start, Surtain had to go and has been smoked this year in the Chiefs new Defense. Please let it go.

maybe they didn't show it, but right after Holliday said to them what Schulters was saying...JT smirked back "glad he waited 58 minutes to do it  " You could tell JT was happy, but he was also kinda serious.

and with what money did you plan on paying surtain with?

I dunno man, there is all this talk that we could end up $25 million under the salary cap next year, and I know this year we're currently about $4 million under the cap.

In other words, we had the money to pay him. All this talk that we didn't have the money was BS. They chose not to give him a big money extension, and I suspect the reason they chose not to do that will only become apparent to us about two years down the road.

yeah it was pretty awesome seeing those guys on the sideline, i couldn't help but think to myslef how great it is to go from riddled with holes on the d line last year to one of the best in the league this year quite an incredible turn around and the way we rotate the players i feel they can stay healthy and be effective for quite a while or at least until our younger guys start stepping up.

Man, you do not know how much I agree. I wasn't going to comment because this topic was touched many times but as long as wanny's & spielman's stink is still on the roster & org I think it's relevant.

They said the same thing about Wale. Think about it folks if you knew you wasn't going to pay him back in Mar/Apr then get picks. Yeah, I know only a 1st was offered, but how about that 2003 1st along with a 2nd or 3rd in the following draft!?

But anyway, Taylor Holliday & Carter will continue to do damage this year.

BTW did anyone see JT trying to either take the ball away from Vonnie or protect it when he recovered the fumble?

I'm not so sure that Holliday is really as talented as you make him out to be...I see Matt Roth in on a lot plays nowadays, more than I would expect. Certainly JT and Carter are as good as they come. Carter in particular I think was born to be a 3-4 DE. I am very glad he signed a 5 year deal. I know people say it is really a 2 year deal because of how much the salaries escalate, but I really believe that 2 years from now the team will be saying yeah, he's worth that much money. And JT according to Saban was born to be a 3-4 OLB (and would be in the hall of fame). Good to see we have him long term as well. And Zach.

You know, it really does compare very favorably to how Belichick had it set up with Richard Seymour, Willie McGinest, and Teddy Bruschi. I guess the missing pieces right now are a super duper safety like Harrison/Milloy, another OLB like Vrabel, and having a CB as talented as Ty Law would certainly help.

That's why I would love to see the Dolphins make a run at Julian Peterson even though I know the 49ers will do everything in their power to keep him. Grab Peterson and you have that second OLB guy who is a great pass rusher but still a linebacker first and foremost (Vrabel), as opposed to JT who is a defensive end trying to be a linebacker (McGinest). Plus Peterson knows that strong-side role from playing under Saban at Michigan State.

And of course that super safety and super corner would sure help right now. Lance in the Pants is not Harrison/Milloy caliber...and Travis Daniels will never be a Ty Law. Really too bad we missed out on Corey Webster...he really COULD be another Ty Law.

But, that's what the draft is for.

Yeah, it sucks that Surtain left but I think by this time next year Daniels will be SOLID!! We just need another corner, I hope Will Poole makes it back this season...

Degenerated Knee condition..

I think Holliday is one of the main reasons Miami is so good against the run. A lot of times when a run is stuffed towards his side you see a blocking having a lot of trouble with him. He is almost always getting penatration or taking out the combo blocker who is out to get the linebacker.

Another thing I noticed about Holiday is that he gets good pressure on the quarterback. Unfortunately he doesn't get off the blocker.

I don't think seeing Roth in more means much about Holiday. In fact I saw Bowens in more than I thought and I think that has nothing to do with Taylor or anyone else on the line. It says more about Bowens and Roth. Generally defensive linemen are substituted in most defenses. It is a very intesive position.

I thought that was really weird too because it totally looked like JT was trying to grab the ball and run with it. Maybe he was trying to get Holliday to give it up because JT could probably outrun everyone chasing them but you know Holliday's going to get caught.

Anyway I'm truly glad we didn't pay Wale. He was probably the only premier player we had that truly did NOT fit this style of defense, despite all the talk about JT and Zach being useless in a 3-4 etc. JT has the athletic ability to do whatever the heck he wants, and Zach is clearly fitting in a very "Bruschi-like" role here.

But Wale, he does not have the athletic ability to make any kind of linebacker conversions, nor does he have the strength and size to move inside a bit to the 3-4 defensive end position. He is the guy that would have been the hardest to find a role for in this hybrid defense. Furthermore, his being extended and remaining a Dolphin would have probably prevented us from signing Kevin Carter, who has been fantastic in exactly the role Saban wants, so in the end we came out on top. We got rid of an expensive player that would have been useless in this D, and in return we got Marty Booker, who is turning out to be a decent second WR in Linehan's offense. We also got a 3rd round pick which could have turned into a good player if Spielman had a brain in that flat-topped head of his.

Getting rid of Surtain makes a lot less sense for this defense than getting rid of Ogunleye. The issue is, what do the coaches know that we don't. For instance, the Bills traded Henry knowing he was on step 2 of the substance abuse program. The Titans knew he was in the program but not which step. The Dolphins might know something about Surtain's knee that the Chiefs do not...

If you look closely it even looks like at the end when he was going down JT actually tried to strip the ball from Holliday. I just thought JT really wanted the record.
