Jason Taylor, perhaps the greatest defensive player in Dolphins history, likes what he sees on defense in the current edition of the team.

Appearing as a guess on NFL Network’s “Total Access,” Taylor described the Dolphins’ defense as loaded with talent. Beyond that, Taylor said there’s another big reason for optimism.

“Obviously, Cam Wake coming back from injury will be big and to see how much he can really pick up where he left off,” Taylor said. “(Ndamukong) Suh will be more comfortable for sure in Vance Joseph’s defense. It’ll be a different defensive scheme. They’ll be more aggressive up front, less two-gap reading.

“I’ll tell you, the biggest addition they might have in Miami right now is Jim Washburn, the pass rush/defensive line extraordinaire coach. I spent a couple of days in the last few weeks at minicamp and the OTAs and seeing him work with guys like Cam Wake and Suh and being able to get those guys going a little bit, (like) Mario Williams, he’s going to be the biggest addition on that defense, I believe.”

I like Jason's point of view.

I like Jason's enthusiasm but his comments about last year's defense has me a bit apprehensive.

Taylor, a member of some of the best defensive lines in Dolphins history, doesn't mince words when it comes to whether the 2015 defensive line could be as good as some of his crews.

"Be as good as us?" Taylor asked. "They should blow us away."

Taylor, the likely Hall of Famer who was drafted in 1997 and retired after the 2011 season, isn't alone in that opinion.

Tim Bowens, the ex-Dolphins wide-body defensive tackle who is a member of the franchise's Walk of Fame, also thinks the 2015 defensive line of tackles Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell, and ends Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon, could be better than his units, especially in the middle.

Yawn -this is very reminiscent of all the comments people made about last years defense. Wake me when they actually play well in a games.

I myself like them bringing in Vaughn and Jim on the defensive coaching staff and Gase as the HC. I understand the skepticism however I am hoping that we are finally putting the right nucleus together for a bright future.

Always like hearing from Jason. Do not know how he feels about it, but I think it would be great if he could impart some of his wisdom by coaching our team in some capacity.

Taylor works for the Dolphins, of course he is going to sell you hope.

I have to respectfully disagree. When he was doing the morning show on Sirius XM with Bob Papa I thought he was pretty straight forward with his views by calling them as he saw em.

I agree with his comments re: Jim Washburn. That was a home-run hire for our coaching staff.

JT is not the best defensive player in Dolphins history. Very good player, but he often disappeared against the upper echelon LTs and padded his stats against weaker O-lines.
Manny Fernandez, AJ Duhe, Doug Betters to name just a few were better players and showed up in the playoffs. I watched them all play and as much as I like JT, he wasn't a game changer in games that mattered.

Im so sick of watching our expensive defensive line loaded with talent underachieve.
