Taylor Mays at OLB?

I remember this guy flirting with coming out last year and everyone was talking about what a great safety he was (possibly even a top 10 pick). Then, he goes back and has a solid but unspectacular senior year. Now some people have him as the second best safety but some have players like Earl Thomas and Nate Allen ranked ahead of him.

The guy is a special athlete and a heck of a player. USC turned over a lot of players and wasn't a dominant team this year and I think that has affected his draft stock.

My question is, do you think it's possible we might target him to play OLB? He's built like (6-3 230) and hits like a LB. And he can turn and cover (4.45 40 time) and he's a solid run stopper.

What do you guys think?

Maybe in a 4-3, but not in a 3-4.

I'm thinking the same thing. Put on 15-20lb and make him a weakside LB in the 3-4. I think it's a GREAT idea.
 
taylor mays will play free safety and he will be a star. i will be very happy if we take him, just wait until he runs a 4.35 forty at the combine. if you look at the tape of his junior year, he was a top 5 pick. if we can get him, it will be a steal.
 
Mays is another over hyped USC product! Please stay away! I watched several USC games and the guy is a ghost on the field!

He'll probably play SS, not FS.
 
hes cant be an OLB,he has absolutely no experience sheddind blocks,and setting the edge....jesus,why does everyone think you can just slap the neccessary weight to a player,and make him compatable for the system,when all your really doing is trying to put a square block in a triangle mold...
 
Mays didn't have a great senior year. I watched about half of USC's games and he just disappeared at times. I think people who were calling Mays the next Ronnie Lott were smoking the green stuff. I would rather go with a LB or a top WR, and get a Safety later on.

I don't think EVERYONE thinks that; in fact, I doubt ANYONE thinks that "you can just slap the neccessary weight to a player,and make him compatable for the system". I'm talking about a specific freakish athlete in at a specific spot on the Defense. Sometimes you have to think outside the box, my friend.
 
No matter where you put him, Mays will have poor instincts.

And he'll go for the thunderous smack down instead of a conventional tackle.

Mays needed to play in a run oriented decade like the '70s. Anyone who prioritizes him in this era is asking to be exploited.
