After reading the ESPN article about Sabans plans for Jason Taylor, it reminds me of how Arnsbarger used AJ Duhe in the early 80's.

I wonder how Jason Taylor feels about that? I don't think there is anyone in the league who is quicker off the ball at defensive end in a 3 point stance than Taylor??? Saban did mention that he wanted to build the defense around what Jason Taylor does best and what he brings to the team... hope he still has those intentions.

Lawrence Taylor was a lot meaner and nastier than JT. Players were scared of LT. They respect the hell outta JT. But he doesn't strike that fear like LT did. Few players do.

He was also not quite as lanky.

Freeney is probably the quickest off the ball but I see what you mean.

Please don't compare JT to LT, LT is the greatest Defensive Player of All-Time... JT is good but far from LT.....

Comparing players from two different era's of football as I see it? Players are faster at every position today. LT was going up against player's not nearly as fast as him. Dick Butkus most likely would not have been a linebacker in today's NFL, quicker than anybody but slow as can be.
Jason Taylor as far as I know is still right now a defensive end and not a stand up outside backer

Many are missing my point....if you read the ESPN article it talks of Taylor playing 5 positions in 6 plays.

Simply reminding me of how AJ Duhe was used he played 5 pos.( OLB/MLB/OLB/DT/DE ) comparing him to LT is crazy.

Both JT and LT did change the NFL that they were in. Before JT the smallish defensive end in the 4-3 was not used. Before LT the outside linebacker pass rush and the hand swat thing to cause a fumble on the quarterback were few and far between. Of course LT made a MUCH bigger contribution as he pretty much changed how people thought about defense. JT just helped players like Freeney get a shot at playing defensive end rather than linebacker.

You may already know this, but be very careful to make sure to weight train with flexibility, always stretch before working out. If you add to much raw muscle, it will slow you down a lot.

One of my friends that I use to train and spar with got too big, and severely slowed himself up (him and I used to compete together), he went from being a great challenge for me, to someone that I was able to dominate in almost every time in sparing sessions. Be very care how you add the muscle.

Maybe a more apt comparison for JT would've been San Frans Haley, just in that they both were smallish high motor types who could cause teams to game plan around them.

I think Taylor will have a great year regardless of where Saban puts him at.
