Outside of QB this is the 1 position I am boggled we paid 0 attention to in the Draft or FA the last couple of years. We have an average at best Starting TE and oogles and googles of crap behind him on the roster.

From all reports from TC, Clay is seeing the majority of his time lately at Fullback. So whats your thoughts?

It has always been enigma to me, especially after the success we had in 2008 with Fasano/Martin. I have heard some good things about Mastrund, who was supposed to be our #2 guy last year but was on and off hurt (I think, or maybe he just wasn't ready). I dunno . . . I'm guessing you will see Clay as a FB/TE as well. Can't see how you don't find a way to secure Virgil Green in the 7th round . . . just for kicks.

I am with you. It is absolutely crazy but not surprising; it’s not Tony Sparano's style to actually have a pass catching TE that can stretch the field.

This Draft we didn’t make a play for DJ Williams who went in the 5th round. The year before it was Aaron Hernandez. That’s what happens when your head coach would rather run the ball constantly and have a blocking full back than an actually legit pass catching TE.

It's not surprising to me. People compare Fasano to guys who run patterns WAY more than he does. Henning kept Fasano in a majority of the time to block so his stats are as good as some other names bantered about. He's actually a decent TE if used effectively... which he wasn't. Which you could say the same about Marshall.

I expect Fasano to have a his best year in Dabolls system.

Maybe they're playing Clay at fullback a lot because they think he's already got the skillset for TE. Thus, he needs to develop some runningback skills to eventually replace Polite

If you guys are talking about an elite tight end that uses his size and talent to dominate the middle of the field, the Dolphins might not need one. Remember the team just invested a lot in Brandon Marshall, who is the physical receiver that can dominate the middle of the field and does most of his damage there. Teams that have had a Brandon Marshall, Larry Fitzgerald, Keyshawn Johnson or other big inside recievers for a bell cow tend to not rely on the tight end as much. A set with Heath Miller, Fasano and Marshall would seem to be overkill.

My first observation I agree with you if there are 2 positions that we really did not rienforce in FA it was tight end and running back and IMO they are very important especially to give Henne the weapons he needs.
My second observation I would make that implies to me they already have a ton of faith in Daniel Thomas and Clay to feel those voids.
This draft was interesting after Parcells left in that we only ended up with 6 picks with 2 in the 7th round.
Looking at that draft in hindsight of the players they drafted Pouncy, Thomas, Clay and Wilson were very high priority targets of the phins to fill the needs they felt they had. A guard or center hardly every has gotten picked as high as Pouncy in the first round, Thomas we know they traded up for, Gates I think fell into there laps as they speed recieve that they would have liked but probably did not expect, Clay was rated more a 7th rounder and Wilson was not even mentioned in any draft guide etc that I have looked at he was so far in left field. I believe Kearse was more of a dart throw pick a big body in the trenches. Would like know the how/who made the decision on him. Anyway moving on from the reports are but Kearse look they have a pretty good shot at making the team.
If that happens that a pretty high drafting percentage for picks but when your only picking 6 with 4 of them in the later rounds of the draft you better be shooting bullets and hoping that the Patriots who are picking 6 picks in the first 3 rounds are shooting a lot of duds.
You can never have too many proven weapons. Picking up Bradshaw, Miller in free agency would really be hedging your bets and giving Henne better tools to hold onto everybodies jobs. If we would have had the pick I would have liked DJ Willaims too. Wonder why he and Mallet dropped so far in the draft. Wonder what the NFL scouts know or "think" they know.
