I flip flop more than a fish out of water...(get it, fish....the dolphins...alright im done) but seriously...Im still sticking by my guns and think the Dolphins will do whatever to select Chris Long...

I like Jake Long, I like Vernon Gholston...but what this team needs is an identity going forward...it needs that guy who will pull the locker room together...ESPECIALLY with the loss of zach and probable loss of JT...

Chris Long looks like that team defining player...Not only does he remind me of a young Patrick Kerney on the field but hes got the intangibles this team needs going forward...Dan passed the torch to Zach...Zach and JT carried the locker room...Now we need to bring a character building player like Chris Long...The guy oozes character...And Im not suggesting he'll assume this role over night...but I love listening to this kid talk...

I totally disagree with this team idenity issue...EVERY player should be seen as a Dolphin...no player should be above another...thats why they call it a team sport.

When you start looking like a team...behaving like a team...you'll win like a team.

wow fishy...uve never been in a locker room im guessing...youd know that certain personalities gravitate and dominate...and you want guys with a solid backbone doing so...this team was guided by marino and webb...then the zach and jt years...its time to bring in new blood and no one in this draft has the attitude that screams success in the nfl more, than chris long...

I like this post, and I agree, especially if we trade Jason Taylor. If we don't, I think Gholston COULD be the pick, but Long certainly looks like ths sure bet right now.

There's only one leader...the coach...you better believe when Shula was the coach...thats the way it was. If you need a player to be your leader...you should fire the headcoach...because he isn't doing his job. Now if you say the fans have favorite players I'll agree with you.

Couldn't disagree more, you MUST have a leader on the field as well. Look at any top/great team they all have a leader on the field. Yes the head coach should be the top dog but you have to have a leader on the field as well.

When Shula was here you mean to tell me Marino wasn't considered the team leader??? Manning the leader of the Colts? Brady the leader of the Pats?

Marino was the leader of the offense on the field...as is Manning and Brady...but they weren't and aren't the team leader's. The Pats are a perfect example...damm them...LOL...The come out as a team...they play as a team...and they all know who their leader is...the CHEATER.

Every team has leaders on both sides of the ball. To say that the coach is the only leader is absurd... you need locker room presence, huddle presence, etc. Zach was CLEARLY that kind of player for us. JT too... now we could potentially have no true on the field leader.
I'm all for drafting CLong. This is just another reason why he'll be the pick.

There's a difference between being the "leader" and being a veteran who leads by example.

Wouldn't the latter still be considered a leader?? Why do they have to be a veteran to lead by example?

like i said in post 1, i dont expect chris to go to whatever team that drafts him and take over the locker room...but hes a guy, who will eventually define his teams dressing room...hes that type of character...hes a competitor...a throw back...hes everything zach was...

some leaders are vocal...some are by example...some are both...

Why? The nature of things....younger players...look up to the older players....kind of a been there, done that item.

Motion...I guess it's how you define leader...is he the boss...or does he lead by example...by showing you how things should be done. I've been a Dolphin fan since 1968...and I can't remember ever hearing that one player was the leader ( boss ) of the team.

Did you fall into a coma between the years 1984-1998?

I'll agree to disagree then.
