The Dolphins have a foundation in place, so a radical fall after an amazing 2008 turnaround seems unlikely. Adding defensive end Jason Taylor in free agency and cornerback Vontae Davis in the draft were needed moves. Quarterback Chad Pennington already is on notice that backup Chad Henne is in the on-deck circle, so there is pressure. That's no fun when the receiving corps still needs help.

Actually thought this was one of the better pre-season articles. Just laying out the facts, no wild predictions, here are some pluses and minuses on teams with at least a fighting chance to make the playoffs.

Found the poll on the page funny...

Bills are leading in the poll "Which 2008 non-playoff team is best prepared to make a playoff run in 2009?"

i'd hope that we're on the brink of contention myself...

Ah, the T.O factor, yet they forget...

Young QB(W/ injury problems) + another high profile WR + T.O =

Seems pretty fair to me. We could definitely be a better team next year and still miss the playoffs. I think it all depends on whether Pennington can stay healthy again and play nearly as well as last year. A lot of it hinges on how well Tom Brady does as well...if he's anywhere close to 100%, NE will be a force again.

not usually in the first year, the first year TO is with a team he lights it up. :(

True, and I have said that, but I also forgot that in those other situations he had a QB that could be counted on to get him the ball....the moment that Edwards starts throwing to someone else when T.O is wide open, or starts over/under throwing him (Making him look bad), T.O is not going to be a happy camper, especially when you consider T.O is going to have to play in a very cold and depressing place (Colder then Philly).

Also winning heals all wounds, He played for a very talented Eagle team, a very talented Cowboys team, but in the AFC East, it's going to be very tough for the Bills to continue to win, or at least look good.

I would think this is entirely based off of their TO acquisition...

but it hasn't equalled greater team success.

when he went to the Eagles, they were 12-4 the year before and had been to 3 straight NFC Championships. In 2004, TO's first year, they were 13-3, mild 1 game improvement, won 2 playoff games, WITHOUT TO, then lost the SB with him.

1st year with the Cowboys they equal their 9-7 of the previous year.

TO always has great stats....but improves the team? Not so much.

So if To can improve the Bills by 1 game, they will finish at.500! Congratulations on that one!

well john clayton predicted the afc east to look like this.

pats 13 -3 super bowl bound
jets 11-5 3 rd playoff
Bills 10 6 1st rd playoffs
dolphins 4-12 or 5 11 no playoffs in the near future especially if the jets get Boldin that whould seal our fate in last place.

John and freddie Colman disagreed and Coleman had the afc east like this.

pats 12 -4
fins 10 -6
jets 9-7
Bills 8-8
