Every week i sit at home and watch this guy named desean jackson make play after play for the eagles. Then i see a guy on our roster that seems like a carbon copy of the guy in ted ginn.

They both are very similar in terms of build, and ability, yet one is considered the most dangerous man in football, and the other a first round bust.

what do you guys think is the major difference? is it the mental part, or maybe the situation in terms of play-calling and surrounding cast.

either way i still believe ginn can be a good player for this team. even today he showed glimpses of his ability. he would be a great compliment to a guy like boldin.

what do you guys think

I would say 90 percent of playing ball is mental when it comes to receivers playing. Because either you have it or you don't and Ginn just doesn't seem to have it at this level. Where as Desean Jackson seems to bring it all the time.

Ginn doesn't want to get hit. That is obviously his problem. However, that means he could be one hell of a player in my weekend flag football league. Probably perennial MVP.

From an NFL standpoint, I don't know how you fix that. Should TS just line up Bell and the other big hitters on the team and make ginn run at them with the ball?

Desean Jackson plays with more courage for one, he has a wreckless abandonment about him when he attacks a punt return, or goes across the middle. Not to mention his first 2 steps are much more explosive then Ginn. This makes him much more elusive and harder to tackle. Oh and he doesn't look to get down or go out of bounds.

I think we caught some glimpses today of how Ginn should be used. He'll never be a #1, but he is a vertical threat - just not in traffic, ever. D. Jackson is a complete WR. And, he's not as fast as Ginn - just quicker, more explosive, and he has an understanding of the game.

Biggest difference between these two is Eagles work to get Jackson the ball in situations where he has a lot of space to work with in order to take advantage of his speed. He's never really been asked to be a #1 or every down reciever or to be the main driving force in offense. He's pretty much in a role I think original staff envisioned for Ginn, but it's changed quite a bit since then. Edit: also to the above poster, I know you did not just put Football IQ as one of Desean's strong point. That's just WRONG. I'm thinking some of you have a grass is greener on the other side view of him, but whatever.

Desean Jackson now is what this team thought was best case scenario when they drafted Ted Ginn.

Worst case scenario was that they got Ted Ginn.

In all seriousness, Desean Jackson is quicker than Ted Ginn, whether people want to admit it or not. Jackson also is physical at the line of scrimage, and the majority of the passes he catches are called deep passes, which they can do because their QB is Donavan McNabb. He already has 8 catches of 50+ yards this year.

I think Ginn could've been a decent NFL WR if he had experienced QB throwing to him since his rookie season, but Jackson just has a certain confidence and swagger about him that Ginn doesn't. Jackson goes into every play thinking he is going to be the person to catch the ball, and he will get a TD. Ginn goes into every play thinking he'll do his route, but if he catches the ball, he will try his best not to drop it. I think Ginn puts extra pressure on himself, and that he lacks the self confidence that Jackson thrives off of.

Well, that is just what I see.

i agree, to me, that's the biggest difference. Ginn seems like he is more worried about making a mistake then he is making a play. I think that has to due with the pressure put on him from the fans, combined with his poor play.

He never looked like this at ohio state, he actually looked like jackson does now. hopefully he regains that form.

All that means nothing....the difference is McNabb....simple...if Ginn had a experienced QB with talent...put him with Brady, Brees or Manning then he would be making big plays every week...everything else is mental masturbation nonsense

The two big differences is Jackson plays with an attitude of wanting to take the attack to the other player, Ginn plays scared. Secondly Jackson has quick feet. Ginn is fast as all get out in a straight line, but has some of the slosest feet for a fast guy that I have ever seen.
