no they wont take him off of punt returns... possibly kickoff returns, but not punt returns...

and they will just be competing... doesn't mean they'll have the job

"Foster and Bess have been told they will compete for kick return roles, an indication the Dolphins are intent on lessening the workload of second-year receiver Ted Ginn Jr."

I think this means that The Phins are looking on Ginn to be the No.1 reciever and want him concentrating on route running and catching only.

His Punt and Kick Return duties are over.

Thats fine with me.. We arent deep at WR so I would rather have him fine tuning his recieving skills than his returning skills..

FYI-This is where Booker could have been a replacement :boohoo:

The problem is Ginn is more dangerous on kickoff returns than he is on punt returns.

On punt returns he has more coverage on him, which is normal for every team in the league. On kickoffs it is normal to have less traffic around you when you catch the ball.

There is just more space when you are on kickoff return, so I would rather have Ginn on Kickoff returns instead of punt return if I had to choose one. Because Ginn is really good with some space.

This sucks. I was really looking forward to watching Ginn take it to the house all season with a fully competent special teams cast around him. Oh well, I guess he'll just be even better at WR and rack up more yards that way.

Wow! Even if it's just competition or just kick offs, kind of flies in the face of why he was first/foremost brought in here last year. I would like someone back there who will scare teams and run many kicks back for TD's or very long returns. I sure hope this means they have bigger/better plans for Ginn, not less.

I personally think that's a mistake. The man could have taken several to the house last year, and losing that threat is detrimental

I don't think Ginn lines up at WR "only". He had 3 returns (2 called back) for td's, and you don't want to loose that production. Booker couldn't catch a punt or kickoff? Thats part of the reason he's gone. Oh and you better hope that Beck's not "toast" cause Henne's no where near ready to start in the NFL.

I dont think you want your No.1 reciever returning kicks. If he goes down with an injury you lost your No.1 reciever.

This is why Cameron's choice of drafting a punt returner / kick returner last draft and then trading our No.1 receiver during the season was such a disaster. Now that returner has to replace the No.1 reciever. There were better options at No.9. Patrick Willis for 1.

With all the acquisitions during the offseason for special teams, there should be a night and day difference between this year and last years units.....look for alot more touchdowns on Kickoff/Punt returns

That would be beyond retarded. Ginn's return ability is part of what makes him a dymatic threat and talent...

This is assuming both/either of Foster or Bess actually make the team. Both are undrafted free agents and while I LOVE their potential very much, that is a very BIG IF.
