I am not saying Ginn will be the next Wayne. I was bored and looked up Reggie Wayne's first two years in this league and compared them to Ted Ginn's. It was interesting.

Reggie Wayne really broke out in his fourth season. Pennington will be starting this season (Ted Ginn's third season). Possibly Henne will come in at the perfect time. Who knows. Please don't bash me for saying Wayne is the next Wayne. I was bored and thought i would do a comparison.

Sorry. After I posted this, i saw the stats were hard to understand. Ill post both links. And write their catches and yards. Sorry. I am a rook.:boohoo:

Reggie Wayne's stats ---> http://www.nfl.com/players/reggiewayne/profile?id=WAY456953

Ted Ginn

2007 - 34 catches, 420 yards, 2 TD's
2008 - 56 catches, 790 yards, 2 TD's

Reggie Wayne

2001 - 27 catches, 345 yards, 0 TD's
2002 - 49 catches, 716 yards, 4 TD's

I didn't count Ted Ginn's kickoff and punt returns. Irrelevant because Wayne never did that. There, optimism?

I realize that a HOF quarterback by the name of Peyton Manning was tossing passes to Wayne. Maybe Henne will do the same with Ginn. More optimism.

Ted Ginn is a head of Reggie Wayne's development and Wayne had a Hall of Fame QB throwing to him and a Hall of Fame WR on the other side of him.

Impossible to compare the two that way as there situations are totally different. Wayne was playing with a Hall of Fame QB in Manning and opposite a HOF WR in Harrison. They also had Dallas Clark at TE and Stokely in the slot whom where both excellent receivers. This is logically the main reason Wayne's stats were not huge. That's not to see he didn't need to improve in those years, but Ginn is pretty much exactly the opposite. The only threats Ginn has played with come out of the backfield and he's had multiple QB's with none able to throw a quality deep ball.

Regardless, here's to hoping Ginn becomes the kind of player Wayne has turned into!

Well, we will see. I have noticed the excuses for Ginn are already falling into place for next year should he not develope like everyone says he will in year 3. We shall see.

WHAT?!?!? NO BASHING?!?!?! AMAZING. everyone thinks i am stupid and dont realize that wayne and ginn are in and were in totally different positions. i know. i was bored and its called optimism. i hope for the best for ginn because he has been called everything.

Will Pennington's arm replace the 3 year excuse?

dallas clark at TE, wasn't a reality until I believe waynes third year in the league.

so the first two years even with the different qb's is still somewhat a valid argument, given that the basis of the thread is to demonstrate how it takes time for a WR to come in to his own in the nfl.

Most won't bash you if they come into this thread with an open mind and actually digest the point you are trying to convey.

To me as long as the guy keeps progressing, rather than regressing, he'll be okay.

it's when he falls off the radar completely we need to be alarmed.

go phins!

I just find it funny how negative alot of people are on this board towards Ginn. They just see a rookie around the NFL step in and do great aka AP and expect our rookie to do also. Ginn showed playmaking ability this year. I dont know what people were watching to say he didnt. Our QB cannot throw deep to him so that limits him in some ways to what he can do.

what limits him even more is when you take away a WR deep route, and you already have a running back out in the flat, a TE doing a crossing route, and a slot receiver doing say a curl or out route, who do you think is going to get the most balls when your receiver *(should read quarterback)* tends to always shy away from the deep ball.

watching the games, it shouldn't take long for one to make this kind of assesment.
a qb (CP) with a tendency to dink and dunk, does nothing but limit a deep threat receiver.

it's like going to battle with half the weapons in your arsenal. a deep route becomes useless when your arm can't get the ball downfield accurately... I don't know why this is so hard for some to digest... we all knew of this weakness when cpenn was with the jets, and certainly should have known about it by the time we signed him.

they brought him in to be a vet presence and manage the team. he did a fine job of that. the only downside is, we won't be seeing any downfield passes anytime soon.

of course there is the occasional attempt which usually falls short or makes a WR stop his route and get into a jumpball situation.
some of the flea flickers this year were a great example of penns weak arm strength.

learn to deal with it, because as long as he is in, thats just the reality of our offense.

the alternative was going 1-15 or slightly better, instead of the turnaround we had.

It was the 3 year rule of rookie wide receivers(excuse)
then it was he had late start(excuse)
then he had a learning disability(excuse)
then it was the different offenses and coaches(excuse)
then it was the double team (excuse)
the QBs arm strength is the (excuse)

not sure why he isn't the returner he was in college
(excuse)

Will Pennington's arm replace the 3 year excuse?

Pennington's arm will always be a good go-to excuse. Of course we will continue to hear the double team excuse as well. The three year excuse will be pretty much moot, moreso as the year goes on.

The #1 Excuse will be...... *Drumroll please!*

-He only played WR for a few years, so he is raw and can't be expected to perform and develop in three years.

These aren't excuses. They're reasons to be patient.

When is it time to not be patient? How many years does he get? What would you need to see to not be patient any more. He is getting paid #1 WR money, but does not have that production.

Patience is fine. I haven't called him a bust yet, and, don't intend to until I'm sure, but at some point don't the excuses have to go?
