They are both speedy Ohio St. products, and Santonio came into the NFL one year before Ginn.

We all know Santonio had a huge postseason last year, and gained notoriety with his huge catches in the Steelers' final drive to win the Super Bowl.

Watching him (and his newfound confidence) last night, I wondered whether Ginn is also just a few big confidence-building games away from producing like Holmes. Personally, Holmes doesn't impress me the way many other receivers in the league do, but somehow he keeps making plays.

What do you guys think the major differences are between these two, if any? Do you think Ginn can equal or surpass Holmes?

Discuss!

I watched both closely at Ohio State and it was no contest who was a better college WR. I was actually surprised Holmes went as high as he did.

I still think Ginn has an unbelievable ceiling that could be tapped with the right QB. Holmes is what he is, he plays with a great QB and makes some plays. If he were playing with Pennington he'd struggle.

Big Ben > Penny
Bottom line Ben has a cannon. Can make ANY and EVERY throw. uses the pump fake like a thing of beauty. Big Ben makes his receivers jobs all that much easier when he gets the cover to bite on his fakes. I personally think Ginn has a higer ceiling than Holmes tho.

Big Ben's pump fakes are awesome to watch. Agreed that Holmes would suffer here.

Holmes always ran better routes, and he's stronger. Ginn's the more explosive athlete, and he's getting stronger and better at running routes.

Until Ginn actually produces in a way similar to Holmes (I think he's capable), I think you'd have to rate Holmes as better.

Both players are not that expectacular. Not trying to shoot down Santonio Holmes or Ted Ginn but they are quality number 2 or 3 receivers at best.

Holmes was a good WR prospect going into the 06 draft, we took Jason Allen followed by Derek Hagan. That worked out well.

Ginn has a bright future.

In college Holmes was more of the number 1 guy. Where as Ginn was the big play X factor. I enjoy Ginn in a dolphin uni. Lets wait and see what Ginn & Henne can do together.

Well, judging by last night, anyone would have been open if their QB had that much time to throw. When was the last time you saw a QB able to pump fake twice and still go to his third option? I'll reserve judgement on both until I see what kind of numbers they put up after this season.

I wonder why this was? What about Holmes' skillset makes him more suitable to be a #1? Certainly size-wise he's similar to Ginn. Is he a better route-runner? Or was it that Ginn was a playmaker they moved all over the field and so Holmes filled the "#1" spot by default?

ted ginn vs santonio holmes is no contest to date...santonio holmes all day long

Care to give a reason for this? I haven't heard much of substance aside from Big Ben being better than Penny.

oh i don't know...maybe 9 catches for 130 yards and a td in game 1 against a legit titans secondary...or maybe making a super bowl gamewinning catch in the corner of the endzone showing he's clutch.

how many times has ginn caught 9 balls for a buck 30 and a td???

plus santonio from what i've seen is much tougher...

ginn dissappears for entire games sometimes...i mean ghost like.

holmes has surpassed hines ward as the steelers go to wr and playmaker...and is becoming absolutely legit as an nfl wr.
