Ted Ginn will make us playoff contenders

There has been a mild outrage concerning Cam Cameron's quote regarding Ted Ginn. He states that Ted Ginn is coming to this team initially as a "return man", and is easy to see why this might rub some the wrong way - he was taken with the 9th overall pick for god's sake! However, you really have to put things in perspective and see what exactly Cam is doing. I see what it is hes doing, and theres no doubt that Ted Ginn will be one of the most influential players on our roster this upcoming season.

Rookie Recievers: We all know how difficult it is for rookie recievers to transition in the nfl - they must learn how to run routes, learn the plays, and catch the ball with consistency. It's hard to acclimated, and players like Marques Colston are rare examples. Please believe that Cam's not going to throw Ginn in there as a starter if hes not ready - that would just hurt him and hinder his chances to be successful in his career. Cam is thinking long term potential.

Ginn will be a great reciever: He probably just wont be in a year or two. Once he gets his fundamentals down and sorts out the nuances of the position, the rest of the NFL better watch out, because he has all the physcial tools to be one of the most explosive, dynamic playmakers in all the leauge. It might take a bit of time, but it will be well worth it.

Anyone who's watched a good amount of football knows what the most fundamental, deterimental factors in winning or losing a football game in the NFL are. What are they?
  • Turnovers
  • Field Position
Weve always been a great defensive team and have caused our fair share of turnovers, but are return game over the years has been lacking to say the least. With an electrifying return presence like Ted Ginn, well be a threat to score everytime a team kicks or punt to us - and even if he dosen't score, our average field position well be at our own 40 or better. What does that mean? More oppurtunities for the offense, and thus more points! Ted Ginn will help the offense even when hes not in the traditional offense.

Scared Straight: What happens when he actually does bring one back for a score in a game? The opposing team will have fear instilled in them, and start kicking balls out of bounds and squibbing it, which also will give us a field position advantage. Think Hester and Chicago Bears last year. Our Team this year could have a similar setup in terms of offense, defense, and special teams.

The bottom line is that Ted Ginn is going to win us games in 2007 Dolfan's. Now I believe Cam will get him involved in the traditional offense on screens and go routes, but don't expect a great impact in this aspect this year. When all is said and done, Ginn's return ability will make us playoff contenders.

I dont know why we are all outraged by this quote. Its common sense and was stated when we chose him that he would start his career as a returner. Initially does not mean forever. We all knew initially he would start as a returner

Sorry to say this Fin Fans TEDD GINN will not have the impact you all think he will.

Second NO ONE player will make this team a playoff contender, you are still at least one more year away

Thanks for the hindsight nostradamous. I disagree. I also have news for Bills fans. Bills took strides backwards and not forward this year. They will not be contending this year. The bills most liely will occupy the cellar of the AFCE.

He didnt say playoff bound he said contender as in contending to be int he playoff with 2 or 3 games left to play. I agree with you E. if Ginn is half the player they say he is, we are playoff contenders.

Ginn will help maybe win 1 game!

The only thing that Cam has put into perspective is that we drafted the Ginn family.

If you think that waiting for about 3 years for his receiver skills to become apparent then that is a wasted pick as far as I am concerned. Teams draft players in the first round to help the team now not later. We could of got a return specialist in the later rounds instead of wasting a number 9 pick over all on that. We will see in the next couple of years what will happen but from what I see it looks like another yatil green pick! And we all know how that turned out!

Its great to be a Miami fan and have optimism but at some point you have to look at reality. However I can't make any comments right now until after this season. Any point of view now is just speculation.

Reggie Wayne didn't break 1,000 yards until his fourth season. He averaged about 700 yards and less than 4 TD's those first three years. That was with Peyton Manning throwing him the ball and him being a full time starter. I can't think of anyone other than Champ Bailey covering Wayne 1-on-1 now. What if the colts had considered him a wasted pick and cut him? Some other team would be real happy right now.
Also, Yatil Green got hurt and couldn't play anymore. He didn't suck, just couldn't stay healthy.

i agree totally with you fellow phin brother !

Ok, First of all, we don't draft people that we assume can't stay healthy, unless you're Wannstache or Jimmy Hair of Little Nicky (whoops, maybe we do).
Second, Ginn's health was just fine until one of his own 280lbs moron team mates decided to roll over him a "celebration".
And finally, field position & speed may not win games all by themselves, but they sure help.
Ginn & L. Booker will both help in these areas. I do see 3 more wins because of them.

I have absolute faith in this kid, not only has he been successful at every position he has played in his football career, he has the ability to learn. He was one of the number one DB prospects in the nation coming out of High School. Does this translate to a top tier WR in the NFL? No, but it is a good base to start with. His upside as a WR and a playmaker is good enough for me. This could pose the age long question about DB's and why they play defense. They do not have the skills and hands to play offense. Could be a Troy Brown type of player for us.
