Per ESPNInsider:

Dec 28 - The Orioles are seriously weighing a proposal from the Red Sox of Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement for Miguel Tejada, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.

Baltimore will weigh other discussions --Philadelphia, the White Sox and Houston are also in on Tejada -- and decide early next week which way to go.

They want a star in return for Tejada. Ramirez is better suited for Camden Yards. Tejada's agents are pushing for Boston so he can be united with good friend David Ortiz.

So far, no one has met the Orioles' asking price for Tejada, The Baltimore Sun reports. The Cubs are offering a package that includes right-handed pitcher Mark Prior. Baltimore would prefer Carlos Zambrano because of Prior's recent history of elbow troubles.

The Cubs reportedly want left-hander Erik Bedard in the deal, but won't include top outfield prospect Felix Pie. Cubs second baseman Todd Walker, center fielder Corey Patterson and pitcher Rich Hill have also been mentioned in a deal.

The Cubs deal is far better in my opinion. Prior or Zambrano could be a front-line A1 type starter for years for the O's. Either way Baltimore can't go wrong and will get a lot in return for him. I am surprised Boston is willing to give up Clement and Manny for Tejeda. With the injury prone Schilling and Beckett......they should be looking to hold onto arms for insurance.

Clement sucks, but I'm not sure I like this deal. Someone explain to me why the Red Sox have to throw in a pitcher to move Manny. Yeah, I know about leverage and all this other crap.. whatever, the fact of the matter is that Ramirez is a better hitter than Tejada. This move sure isn't filling any of the holes on the roster because while they fill the hole at SS, another gaping hole opens up in the outfield. If this trade happens then we're stuck with an injury prone Trot Nixon, who is entering his 30's and hasn't been healthy for a whole season in a while, as the only guy left in the outfield.

In my opinion, all this move does is take away the flexibility this team currently has on the mound. If they move Clement then how are they going to acquire a Centerfielder? I thought Seattle wanted more than just Arroyo for Jeremy Reed? At the time of the Damon move to the Yankees I wasn't worried because I figured management had fallback option. Not that I'm worried now either, because it is still only December, but I'm starting to question if the Front Office has had any direction since Damon left...

I think Damon leaving threw them for a loop. They figured he would be another "VARIETK" and just resign and stay loyal. Boston has ZERO LEVERAGE when it comes to Manny. They MUST move him. They can't bring him back. He hates the organization and the organization hates him, moving him is a formality at this point. I also think not having a real GM in place is hurting them big-time. The reason why you have to throw Clement in is because you have no leverage. Manny must be moved, and teams are taking advantage of this right now. Boston is buckling it looks like, which I don't blame them they have no choice. The longer they wait, the worse its going to get. Just get rid of the guy ASAP! Soon it will be Clement, Manny and someone else for Tejada or whoever they end up trading him for.

Bottom line is with Beckett and Schilling and their health issues, I wouldn't be so fast to give up pitching. Wells is gone. Arroyo will be used to get you someone to play CF most likely. Now give up a sucky Clement, and that pitching depth is thin. Wade Miller is gone also I believe. Beckett, Schilling, and Wakefield isn't garbage but isn't anything I would feel comfy with with the age and injuries on them.

Tejada will never go to the Red Sox. Manny will never waive his no trade to go to Baltimore!

I'll take that bet! Word was Manny was even more upset with the organization once Damon left. I think he wants out in the worst way now that he doesn't care where he goes.

What's the bet?

Id like to see this happen as a Sox fan. Tejada is awesome, hes a great hitter and a good shortstop. We can fill the holes in the outfield with trades, its a helluva lot harder to find a MVP caliber shortstop that good hitting outfielders. Plus Tejada has an IQ above his age which Manny doesnt.

i believe the story mentioned his agents pushing for him to go to boston, AND that he's excellent friends with Ortiz... what do you kow that tells you Tejada won't go to Boston?

He's thinking Manny will block a trade to Baltimore which means Tejeda can't wind up in Boston then

Even Manny dumb enough to think that every team can afford him. Its a very small list of teams that can even afford Manny, let alone trade for him.

Listening to WEEI today, I heard that Seattle offered us Jeremy Reed and Gil Meche for either Jonathan Papelbon or Jon Lester.

If this is the case, then Seattle can go **** themselves. Not a chance in hell we would part with either one of those guys for Jeremy Reed.

Just thought I'd pass that news along.

Are the former members of the Devil Rays F.O. running Seattle now?

IF Reed goes to Boston, I'm sure it will be Arroyo for him straight up. Seattle is just trying to play hard ball and see if the Sox will panic.

Also apparently the Sox are still trying to get Lugo or Gatheright from Tampa Bay and they're asking for BOTH Papelbon and Lester of one of the players, soft of makes you wonder how the hell they pulled off the Kazmir for Zambrino deal a few years ago.
