Ten Thoughts on First Half of Panthers Preseason Game

Your not a fan of reggie bush because of how his career has went so far in new orleans but what you dont seem to understand new orleans was a bad fit for reggie from the start, a top Draft guru like yourself should have known reggie would flourish in a system like miamis. New orleans does everything around brees, pass first offense, pierre ahead of bush, and just never commited to reggie as there "featured back" in the first place, he was mainly used as a decoy in the passing and a return man. As long as you admit you were "wrong" about reggie than its a good analysis.

How could his injuries have been prevented elsewhere? The guy just sustained to many injuries despite not being the featured back. For the life of me i can't figure out how those were avoidable by being in a different location.
As well, it wasn't a conspiracy against Bush in New Orleans, he just couldnt beat out Deuce or Thomas. Much like Tim Tebow, if Reggie couldn't beat them out then he didn't deserve to start. As it was, Sean Payton did an admirable job of using Reggie's unique skill set and made him into a weapon. Had he been elsewhere, say somewhere with a defensive minded headcoach, he probably would have been labled a injury prone bust and been cut.

Excellent work Ck, though i personal think your being to favorable towards Henne and Thomas. Yes, i understand you stated that Thomas "wasn't ready" but honestly the man has looked something awful. While granted our offensive line isn't helping much, i fully expect to see more situations like the goal line failure and fumble.
And this in before i get shouted down: i do realize Thomas is a rookie, but i have little patience for young running backs with major flaws. There are just to many effective ones out there if the guy on your team doesn't show it quick.

YIKES!!! LOL.

But I agree, he's terrible. I don't know if he's the worst I've ever seen but then again I'm hard pressed to think of a guy off hand that I can say oh yeah that guy was definitely way worse. I just don't get it.

As for the worst analysis you've ever seen, so be it. I watched the play front and back, I think Reggie needed that block in order to spring 28 on the play. And I sure as hell didn't like how he farted around on the play stutter stepping everywhere instead of playing decisively.

Reggie definitely did NOT need that block in the back to spring for 28 yards. The safety took a terrible angle anyways and Bush was in 2nd gear. The block from Marshall did nothing.

i sure hope brian daboll is watching these bills lbs cover the backs out of the backfield in the passing game...reggie bush could have a field day against these guys

I was also surprised by Reggie Bush. It seemed like he lost some of his quickness when he bulked up for the NFL, but looks like its back. I'm excited to have him.

come on spesh...thomas showed some good feet yesterday...i think the vision was decent also...the goalline runs early were way too soft and timid though...the trying to jump the pile from the 5 yard line like he was on some kind of trampoline or something definitely not the brightest...i sure hope that was all him and not someone telling him to try and go over the top on the staff

My first ten thoughts in this game were:
“Dan Henning really was $hit”
“Dan Henning really was $hit”
“Dan Henning really was $hit”
“Dan Henning really was $hit”
“Dan Henning really was $hit”
“Dan Henning really was $hit”
“Dan Henning really was $hit”

Seriously, once we get the offensive line we want I would still take Ronnie and Ricky over Reggie and Thomas, that was not an upgrade and we are dangerously thin at running back.
Why don’t we have the offensive line we want yet? Pouncy could be a wasted pick that high. I’d rather have Ingram and Mallet than what we took. We will soon see if Ireland= Spielman.
I’m willing to see what Henne can do in the new system before writing him off. This is the year the game slows down and he understands the offense, or should I say defense, or it is over. We are dangerously thin at quarterback. I would take last seasons back up over this seasons back up. Don’t see any upgrade there.
If Jake Long goes PUP, we will lose more games than win until he comes back.
Odrick could become an impact player. It was time to move on from Crowder, It was time to move on from Taylor too, wtf is he doing out there again?
I keep hearing the Dolphins are going to have to cut some talented football players to get down to the final roster for the first time in a while. Not really seeing that, there are still plenty of mediocre players on this team.
Changing the kickoffs will be the biggest improvement in the performance of our special teams.
In Daboll I trust, but do we have the personnel here to run his system on all cylinders?
Not seeing any improvement in the red zone yet. More field goals and fist pumps.
Dan Henning really was $hit.

CK covers all angles - this was to be expected - lke a multiple choice quesrion "D" cover everything just in case these players actually pan out - what you folks are seeing is that Henning was truly outdated on the ol shelf life

I think people need to remember that Pouncey and Thomas are rookies who are seeing their first game action after a shortened camp. These guys aren't gonna walk out there and be all-world.

What I want to see is if Sparano makes a move in regards to Colombo. I won't fault him as long as Colombo is not starting next week at RT. I don't care if Murtha is slated to move over after Long is back.......he needs to replace Colombo at RT now. That guy is continuing is horrid play from last year and should be gone.

Ireland do the right thing if Sparano is too clueless!

Garner needs to be at right tackle. He played right tackle in college, and he played even left tackle well last night.

The big picture is that this offense looked like a real offense for the first time in a long time. It doesn't matter who it is. Especially since Miami has sucked against really bad teams lately. I think there's too much evaluation into this game. Henne got to the ball to his WRs and made plays regardless of how perfect the throws were. He had a good game. The O-line clicked and Pouncey looks good. The running game looked good. The defense looked good. Let's see if they can be consistent because everyone is loving Henne now and is apparently the leader that most haters claim he wasn't, but the second he sucks people will turn on him.

Henne doesn't suck, he's just inconsistent. All that needs to be said is that he has made tremendous progress as a leader.

Nice job CK but I'm in the corner that Bush didn't need the block in the back. At the point Marshall pushed him Bush was well past the defender. Aside from the near pick six I thought the toss to Reggie in the left flat that he put no air under was typical of him. Had he gotten just a little loft Bush was clear down the sideline for a long gain.

This is a much more QB friendly offense that can mask some of Henne's deficiencies enough to have a successful season. Still no doubt they HAVE TO invest in a QB.

I think he is going to exploit just how bad NE LB corps is in coverage.

Simply having a playmaker (Bush) as the "checkdown" person should result in quite a bit more chunk yardage, and a masking of some of Henne's deficiencies.

Now, add a seam-buster at TE and you have something really well-rounded you can throw out there. Bush, Marshall, Bess, Fasano (blocking), Gates (downfield threat), and your seam-buster.

You hear this too much already, but great stuff. I really enjoyed reading this. It's such a breath of fresh air to see intelligence and insight applied to what someone here is seeing out on the field.

I got a lot of the same impressions from the game minus the analytical precision with which you watch it. Bush was the number one thing that struck me. For whatever brief time he's healthy, it's going to be fun to watch. I really don't think it can be overemphasized how **** awful Carolina is and I think we really did a good job of attacking their gigantic, glaring weaknesses.
