According to ESPN's ranking of NFL fan bases, not only are we the worst fan base in the AFC East, the worst fan base in the state of Florida, we're the worst fan base in the entire AFC. We're a fair-weather fan base. We don't travel well and I can't really say that that is our fault. Seriously, who wants to LEAVE Florida and go anywhere else? Of course those lousy Jet fans are going to travel to Miami Gardens. I love my Dolphins and I'm as loyal as any fan out there as I've stuck by this team for 30 years no matter what but I'm going to have to agree with about 70% of the assessment of our fan base. We need to step it up. Dan Marino was my childhood hero but I'm about sick of seeing his jersey in the stands during home games. I'm sick of it because I know that we haven't really had a "face of the franchise" player since outside of Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor. I want better for this team. We can't even properly tailgate for God's sake. People come from the beach just in time for kickoff, dry up in the sun during our beatdown, and file back to the beach afterwards. Be more passionate.

Seeing it as how about 90% of this board is made up of people outside of Miami and Florida in general, i'm gonna have to disagree with that article. At least when it comes to us not traveling well.

I agree with OP. People booing? WTF is that crap? Who are those losers in that picture? Those aren't fans. Those are idiots looking to make a spectacle.

What's the matter? We have a few bad seasons and all of a sudden the fans think it's a good idea to boo and not show up? That's the very definition of fairweather. I hate it. I agree that we as a fan base need to step up.

ESPN also hates anything Miami....

Sure our fans are terrible right now but we've sucked for the last 4-5 years. Yet we still sold out more games than the BillyGoats during that time.

It's simple, most teams fans are fair weather. If your team sucks they don't draw as well. If they're contenders they go crazy.

I traveled to Philly to root for my Fins. Doesn't get anymore dangerous then that.

Yeah and Jacksonville has to tarp a quater of their stadium b/c they cany sell tickets. On top of that they are going to move to Los Angeles.

I agree and disagree here. When the Dolphins are good, ESPN is fair to us. When the Dolphins are bad, they make a mockery of it but they're still fair about it because they've been doing it to the Lions for years as well.

They rip the Marlins for attendance reasons but anyone who has ever lived in South Florida during the summer knows why the Marlins aren't selling tickets.

We got nothing but love when the Heat were winning the NBA title a couple of years ago. ESPN is always slurping Dwyane Wade.

Forget about the Panthers.

When you say ESPN hates anything Miami I'll agree 110% when it's the Hurricanes. Randy Shannon holds seven players accountable for actions off the field under his new team conduct policy and Michael Wilbon's response is, "Somethings never change." It's terrible the reputation that the U has "earned" over the years. It's absurd when the Gators, Seminoles, Buckeyes, and Nittany Lions are doing the same and even worse.

As far as the correlation between attendance and win - loss record; you're right to an extent. Green Bay and Pittsburgh are going to sell out no matter what. That's the kind of fan base I want for my Dolphins. It'll probably never happen because of the extreme differences in the culture of Miami compared to cheese town but damnit we shouldn't be listed as the worst fan base in the AFC. Maybe we are, maybe we're not. But there's apparently enough evidence during the gameday atmosphere that we've at least semi-earned this spot. We definitely need to step it up.

I live in Pennsylvania (75 mins north of Pittsburgh) and am a lifelong Dolphins fan. I have been a Marlins fan since 1992 (when the franchise was announced). ESPN doe srip the Marlins for attendance reasons. I have always felt they should build a baseball stadium (I hate watching the Dolphins have to play on the dirt onfield during the early quarter of the season. However, the baseball stadium should have a retractable roof and be air-conditioned (ala Bank One Ballpark in Arizona). I have tried to find onfo on thei new stadium deal but details seem to be sketchy.

I do love how Dolphins Stadium was built in 1987 but is still considered among the finest in the NFL. Overhead views of the stadium at night are great to see.

I recently went to florida/miami for a 2 weeks, i did not see one person with a dolphin item on. Kind of dissapointed me. I saw alot of buc fans tho.

I've ventured into Oakland with my Dolphins gear on. Probably about as bad or worse than Philly.

Well, we did have that one Raider fan coming on here telling us what a bunch of miserable fans we were.

well at least we know we finheaven ppl are real fans!! i joined this site in when miami just started doin bad and have checked it every day sense.. i live in pittsburgh and go to Kent state university i hear sh*it from ppl all the time and im still a fan.. even when we lose ill still be a fan.. cam was the worst coach ever and i still rooted for him.. what that article doesnt understand is that there are fans like us out there and we arent goin anyhere

call me a bad fan ESPN and ill come up there kick all ur arses

Actually, we do travel well as a fan base so I dont really know where they get that from. We havent been good in the past several years and we're coming off a 1-15 season so we're an easy target now.

Guaranteed if we were where the Patriots are...you wouldn't see our fan base ranked where it is. Thats just fact.

The real problem with the fan base in Miami is simple. People around the nation don't understand this, but it's true....Most of the people in South Florida are from some place else. We don't have the home grown fans that other cities have. I'm born and raised in Miami. I can honestly tell you I'm one of the few. You should see the surprised looks I get from people when I tell them I was actually born here. I grew up watching the Dolphins in the Orange Bowl. I'd see fans decked out in aqua and orange until that persons home town team came to play. All of a sudden they are wearing the opposing teams colors! These are season ticket holders I'm talking about! That's why people don't go unless the Fins win. They're from some place else and so are their loyalties.

ESPN jumps all over anything negative that happens in Miami. That's just how it is. They give props to certain players such as Wade, and they also love them some Shaq. Chris Berman started it all. He is a huge Billygoat fan, and the Billygoats are as bandwagon as it gets.

Of course we have teams like the Redskins, Broncos, and the Pack who have sold out games since the beginning of time it seems. But even the Pats did not sell out years ago when they stunk. The Jets have a waiting list, but on game day (when they suck which is most years) against Miami you see a lot of Dolphins fans at their games. KC also has a very good fanbase, good or bad. You look into the stands during one of their games and the crowd is 99 percent RED.

The Marlins actually had a decent average attendance in the beginning of the franchise. I think it could get back to respectfull with their own stadium, but it's not because of the heat as much as it is the chance of rain.

The Steelers have sold out 280+ games but their beloved Pirates can't sell didly squat in thier new stadium. Why? A couple of reasons. First would be that the Steelers have a huge fanbase, as do the Pirates, but the football team is very competitive, while the baseball team has stunk since Bonds, and Bonilla played for them.

We're not the worst fanbase in the AFC. Well we are one of them and it's because we totally stunk last year, and still sold out almost every game. BUT we are a bandwagon town! So are many teams though. SD, Arizona, Jags, Billygoats, Atlanta, Oakland to name a few are riding the same type buses.

So coming from a town thats integrated with so many cultures, and so many other people flocking here to retire, it's not that bad....

So we are worse then the Jets fans who applauded and cheered when Pennington gut hurt and had to come out of the game?
