Texans release Andre Johnson

Merge: Andre Johnson Released

Big Body WR that will help Tannehill in the Red Zone. It will all come down to money. Miami should consider him.

Just about every team is going to be interested in him on a short deal for reasonable money. It's gonna take a strong pitch to land him given he's probably going to want to go to a contender. Hasn't he only been a part of like two playoff wins in his career?

Sadly, the Pats make a ton of sense for him (much more sense than Hartline to the Pats makes). Would hate to see it. He still has at least two good years left imo.

Does signing Johnson mean we'd pass on a big WR in the early rounds of the draft? if so, pass on him

I agree. Get Johnson, keep Wallace another year, re-sign Moreno and find a quality guard in free agency or the draft and the offense is good to go I believe. Then use our top picks in the draft on the best linebacker and db available.

I think he's only been to the playoffs once and they won the first and lost the second game.

I agree. We could focus on defense early and go offense late in the draft.

I saw a lot of him last year because I had him on my fantasy team, and I definitely think he has a year or two left in the tank. I'd love it on a one year deal, and still drafting a wide out in round 1 or 2.

Yes, please.

He's exactly what Tannehill needs. He's one year removed from back-to-back 100-catch, 1400-yard seasons.

The Suh signing only legitimizes the Dolphins as a team that is trying to win. I think that draws at least a couple free agents that we normally wouldn't have gotten...

Dpeneds on money. I like AJ, but hew isn't worth #1 WR money anymore and The WR Class is deep. Would just be a luxury at this point if we intend to keep Wallace.

From Josina Anderson

My phone interview with Andre Johnson: On how he feels about the expectation that the Texans will release him: "I mean, it is what it is. It's just the nature of the business. I'm not really worried about it. I will go somewhere else and play and hopefully I can do well for them."

On his preference for his future team:

"Wherever I go, I hope I can play with a great quarterback. I don't know. I'm just going to wait and see what happens. A lot of these teams want young players; so we'll see just what happens. I am open to visiting teams."

On if he is bitter:

"Nothing bitter about it. It's the nature of the business. I had a feeling it was going to happen. When you are prepared for it makes it a whole lot easier."

On if he feels like he should have the right to play out his career for the Texans after his contribution to the organization.

"The funny thing is that when (a player) asks to be traded or something, people get on you about honoring your contract. But when you've done a lot for an organization and they feel like you get old, then they don't have to honor their contract. I don't get where they come up with this honoring your contract when you're very very productive and you are doing great things for them....I don't know a lot of guys in the league that catch 85 balls and have almost 1,000 yards that that's a down year for them. But you have a year like that and then it's 'well your old, we want to reduce your role,' and all this stuff--I don't get that. But that's the nature of the business. Like I said, it doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense to a lot of people. That's just the way it is. I expected it to happen and I don't have any ill feelings against the Texans organization."
