I am a huge Ryan fan but have said from the beginning the player we need to take is Jake long. Long is the only player worthy of the first pick in the draft and we have the greatest need on the oline. After years of wanting to throw crap at the TV especially the last two years, finally a pick i can smile with. Thank God we passed on Chris to take Jake. Chris is a nice player but Long is a stud in our biggest position of need. Dont have a clue who our Qb will be although I suspect we draft one fairly high, please Mr brohm fall lol but whoever he is will be pretty secure with a decent line in front of him. This could be our best line since the seventies and is only missing a solid guard.
i do wish we could have traded down but it always seems easier in theory than reality. Not sure what we do the rest of the draft but so far I give it an A plus. i admit Ireland and parcells propensity to draft lb's did have me worried.

Don't worry, they'll go defense with #32.

Course, I reserve the right to be wrong. ;)

I think this is the first draft in quite some time where the consensus (fans, writers, commentators..but mostly fans from this perspective) felt almost universally either good or very comfortable with the pick. The LT has as much, if not more influence on making the skills players better than any QB (and should make any QB better as well)...and Jake's the best available and one of the 2 best coming out of the draft in at least the last 5 years. I'm stoked.

I agree. I am so happy with this pick and the fact he's already signed just makes me giddy as all hell....

our line was decent ricky's first year here, and he ran wild...but that was almost entirely on him...since that year the oline has declined to the point of being absolutely PATHETIC for years.

it's embarrassing to watch defenders rape our line and be in the backfield right as we make the handoff...

how can you even evaluate john beck or any other QB we've had with our line? This is the first step in what I hope is a trademark of this franchise with the new regime.

It feels like we finally did it right....it was the safest, smartest thing we could have done

This is our best first round pick since Troy Vincent in my opinion.
