for taking Alex Smith ahead of us. The bust of the 05 draft has 0 touchdowns & 8 interceptions. Ryan Leaf territory there. He came in with a QB rating of 17.5, it went down today. Thanks again San Fran.

Little early to be calling someone a bust aint it? Don't forget that Smith has no talent around him in San Fran and he is playing on a crappy team.

Where we looking at taking him? I heard somewhere that we didnt even look at taking this guy last year. I may be wrong though.

That Meyer offense made him look better than he was. Im sorry but his play is so poor that you have to wonder if he is actually going to be more than a backup at best. Its just so poor. I could literally step away from this computer, suit up and throw 0 tds 8 picks and have a Qb rating of 17. I bought into some of the hype with this kid, he was so well talked up, 'hes so smart', 'works so hard', etc, etc, you have to wonder what people were talking about. Preseason until now he has looked like a horrible Qb. You have a late round pick like Orton playing inconsistant but good at times, Smiths had enough time to have a good outing here and there. Hes terrible. SF is ruined for years because of this pick.

He has looked horrible (6 fumbles - 2 lost fumbles - 8 interceptions - 0 TDs), but obviously he may turn it around. I'm happy as hell that we got Ronnie Brown instead of Smith. The 49ers are screwed for the next four or five seasons if this is as good as it gets for Alex Smith...

Smith shouldn't of been taken in the first round. What he's doing now isn't surprising.

If Smith was in Chicago like Orton is........he would be a superstar. It's all about luck and circumstance. Orton is on a better team and he looks like a "great find" while Smith going to SF looks like a "bust"

Switch them around and, well you know.....

I disagree. Smith is throwing Ints left and right and would never have won the starting job in the preseason, which Orton did. Smith has looked terrible since the preseason. Jeff Blake would be starting there in Chicago and Smith would be writing on the clipboard. Smith hasnt played well enough to be starting, not even backup really. Its his high draft status that has him playing. He wouldnt be playing in Chicago.

Orton is being overrated by the media because he's the rookie QB on a surprising division leading team. He's not the reason. Orton is having a fairly bad season. Among qualifying starting QBs he's last in QB rating & has a completion % slightly better than 50. He's a decent QB for where he was picked but he's not any good right now either.

Orton never won the starting job. He only went AFTER Rex Grossman got hurt.

Yes..Grossman was hurt..then the starting competition was opened up, Orton won it. Smith would never have won that competition. Blake or another assorted Vet would be starting in Chicago, not Smith. And if he did win the job he would have been benched by now.
Orton isnt have a good season, but he isnt making game altering bad plays either. Hes holding chicago in the games and letting the defense/running game win. Thats about all you can expect from a rookie. Smith couldnt even do that if asked to.

That fact alone is one of the reasons why I thought the shouldn't get him first overall. Tim Rattay was one of the better players on a team that needs help everywhere. Plus Ken Dorsey has played head and shoulders above Smith so far, and this is a guy who was a 7th rder.

agreed, he was simply overhyped in a draft with no good QB prospects.

Orton has his flashes. I have yet to see a flash from Smith. He looks lost. Like they took him from backyard football and threw him into the NFL
