Philbin is DESPERATE to keep his job. A 54 yarder to try and go 3-0 up was only ever going to be his call.

our kicker can barely hit a 40 yd, yet he tries a 56 yd , a kick which has such a low success rate even for the top notch kickers.

What's Philbin have to lose at this point? His job is on the line if he loses. Saying that he might have been better off going for it
I would've gone for it too. 4th and 10 right? Don't get it you give them the ball their 36. Miss the FG, which he did, gave them the ball at their 48 which they then went right in and scored.
