I dont understand why so many coaches hate leading by 2 points.
I bring this up because no matter the outcome, with 2 min left in the 3rd qtr, take the extra point and the 2 point lead. The only way going for 2 and getting it helps is if you feel the last score of regulation will be a TB FG to tie it at 18.
A 2 point lead is big. It almost came into play after that Wilson INT. Had the Phins gotten in the endzone there, we only lead by 8 as opposed to 9. Im sure I dont need to explain the difference in an 8 or 9 point lead. Its HUGE in the 4th qtr. A 9 point lead completely changes how the game is played.
Unless its really late in the game, Im always kicking the extra point to go up by 2. If the other team kicks a FG and that happens to be the only score in the game from that point and it beats me, I will live with it. I want to be up by 2 points in the event I score a TD next and go up 9. The difference in a 1 and 2 point lead is so under estimated.
And not taking that extra point comes into play now anyway.... we trail 22-19 as opposed to 22-20. Well, if we had 20 points, Tampa wouldve gone for 2 following the TD they just scored. So the score would be 21-20 TB had they failed or 23-20 if they converted.
Let the other team try the 2 point conversions. Take the extra points. Im really only going for 2 beyond 7 or 8 min remaining in the 4th qtr. Unless its a real low scoring game where you figure points to be rare and you really need the 2 point conversion. In that case I may try it earlier.
