The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

To bad we aren't in the NL we may have wrapped a playoff berth at the all-star break.. To repeat the NL is the junior circuit now, they just can't hang with the big boys in the AL..

Unless of course Rudy Seanez is pitching. Seriously why is he still on the roster? Can they just please release him already.

How can the Sox let Philly back into this game?

Well Papelbon blew a save giving up a homer to Utley. It was the first homer Papelbon let up this year and only the 2nd run. This is really Papelbon's first blown save so it'll be interesting to see how he reacts.

(Papelbon never should have been pitching in this game because it should have ended 6-2)

EDIT: Francona can't keep asking Papelbon to get 4 or 5 out saves every time he comes out to pitch. I seriously don't understand why he took Timlin out in the 8th with 2 outs after he gave up 1 hit. Just awful.

The Sox need to start trusting Delcarmen, Hansen and Timlin more. You can't burn Papelbon out because he clearly wasn't himself today. Maybe it had something to do with him pitching 3 innings on Saturday. Just awful.

wow crazy game 7-7 bottom of 12th

Yeah, well it never should have gotten to that point. The Sox don't deserve to win it thanks to crappy relief pitching and mis-managing.

The real MVP with another game winner...

Make it 9 in a row, gotta love the NL East.

Again why do you pitch to him? I understand that Manny is a Hall of Famer but still. Well at least the disaster is over now.

Bring on the Mets!

The short answer: because you have to. Like you said, Manny is not only a Hall of Famer, but he's the best hitter on the team. You can't walk Ortiz to get to Manny, because he'll beat you. In today's game, the biggest mistake made was walking Mark Loretta. In that situation, you have to go right after Loretta despite the fact that he's a great hitter.

Once you get to the Ortiz/Ramirez combination, it's already too late. It's basically pick your poision...

I agree. You let Loretta get a hit off of you. You cannot walk him.

Good thing Manny is still on the Red Sox huh?

Ortiz probably wouldn't see a pitch all year if he wasn't.

After these Series it will be Marlins vs Sox

Im really excited for the matchup, we hung right with the Yankees every game (Lost game 1 6-5 Lost game 2 2-1 and won game 3 5-9)

Im hoping to see if we can hang with another top team

9 straight games... - congrats!

last 9 games... boston > toronto

sup, fin in ri...

slick

Time to bring on the Mets. The pitching match ups for this week:

Lester vs. Soler on Tuesday
Beckett vs. Pedro on Wednesday
Schilling vs. Glavine on Thursday

Hopefully the Sox fans on Wednesday will give Pedro a very long standing ovation because the guy deserves it. I'd kill to get a ticket to that game. He is one of the greatest pitchers not only in Red Sox history (probably the 3rd best behind Clemens and Cy Young) but in the history of the game. What he did from 1998 to 2004 should not be forgotten. And yes I hope he loses the game 1 to 0.

Tuesday will be an interesting game between two rookies. I'm interested in seeing how Lester will pitch against a good hitting line up. Thursday's game will be a nice game between 2 veteran pitchers.
