The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

hey guys, huge BoSox fan here, didn't even know this thread existed until FaninPatsyLand clued me in...thanks again man...

Beckett - Kazmir matchup tonight.

Kazmir has always been tough on us (what lefty isn't?), but we did beat him the last time we saw the Rays in Fenway. Beckett has been dominant in his past couple of outings, hopefully he continues to develop some more consistency with the location of his offspeed stuff. Like most have noticed, when he's unable to locate anything but the fastball, he gets hit hard. Being able to throw his breaking stuff for strikes is the key to his success.

Should be an entertaining game..

Hey, no problem man. A few other regular posters in this thread had no idea this thread existed (GreenMonster comes to mind) and who knows where this thread would be without them.

Should be a very entertaining game tonight. The Rays have all their players back from the DL and I'm a big fan of a lot of their players.

I think Kazmir is going to be tough tonight but he has been struggling since I made a trade for him in fantasy baseball :fire:

Hopefully Beckett continues to dominate and shows everyone he has what it takes to pitch in the AL. I mean not to sound like a homer but if you take away his start against the Yankees, Indians and last one vs. the Blue Jays, he'd have a very good ERA and his record would be 10 and 0. But I realize you can't do that. I'm just saying 3 starts should be a base on whether or not he can handle the AL.

Interesting Red Sox signing today (note: thanks to Rocky Raccoon for pointing this out to me yesterday):

"Red Sox signed outfielder Engel Beltre and shortstop Moises Tejeda to minor league contracts. Beltre reportedly received a $600,000 bonus and Tejeda got $550,000. The 16-year-olds were ranked second and fourth, respectively, on ESPN's ranking of the newly available Latin American prospects. Beltre is a left-handed hitter and center fielder with power potential. Tejeda is a toolsy shortstop with a big-time arm."

That was from ESPN Deportes.

Our inability to beat lefties is really starting to piss me off.

Kazmir was great tonight, all they can do is tip their cap and hopefully put a hurting on the rest of the Rays' rotation over the next 3 games.

On a side note, I can't stand Varitek. I appreciate his defensive abilities and how he handles the staff, but the guy is a major liability at the plate. And it isn't just tonight after an 0-4, 4 K performance. He's been putrid at the dish all year long.

Tough loss as Kazmir continues to make the Red Sox look silly. Beckett pitched pretty well tonight, although he's giving up way too many home runs now for my liking. Oh well tomorrow is another day with Schilling on the mound. With both the Yankees and Jays losing no one gained any ground so that's the good news atleast.

16 starts, 20 HR. That's pretty poor. In the last 2 seasons he's given up 30 HR in 55 starts... The AL is just that much better.
