The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Of course. Well he did say the Wily Mo stunk yesterday and now has to eat crow. Since Nixon went down Wily Mo has 5 home runs and 14 RBIs in 12 games. Him along with Manny and Ortiz are the only ones who have been hitting since the All Star break.

Of course I'd probably be pissed too if my team traded him for Drew Henson a few years ago.

I gotta eat crow because your boy has had a good week? Not quite. I'm just pointing out the obvious that he looks like a bodybuilder rather then a rightfielder. But like everything else Red Sox fans avoid the steroid subject like a plague. Probably because it's now been known that Big Papi's trainer is linked to roids (along with 75 percent of All-Star players from the Dominican that are linked to this trainer). It's all good though because Willy Mo will break down!

No you have to eat crow because you said he stinks, when he clearly doesn't and has a big upside. He's only 24 years old and could be a 30 plus HR guy if he gets the playing time.

As for him looking more like a body builder than a outfielder, yeah his arms and chest are huge and he looks like a freakin moose but have you ever seen him without his uniform on? I have and he's fat like Ortiz is. He's always been a big kid though it's not like he changed over night. And who cares what he looks like. Randy Johnson looks like a pencil, Cecil and Prince Fielder look like bowling balls does that make them any less of a player?

See this is where you blow things up (like a sports writer). I read the article you posted about the Dominican trainer, so what's your point? The guy supplied (Juan Gonzalez) with steriods but where did it say 75% of the guys he trained with took them as well? Yeah the guy worked with Ortiz, Pujols, Pedro and any other big name out of that island so what? Just because they worked with him (Do they even still work with him? How long did they even work with him? What does "work with him" even mean? Who knows?) doesn't mean they're users. You're just trying to push this steroid subject towards Red Sox players without any proof or reason.

Were there Red Sox players who took steroids in the past 10 years? Yes, I'm sure there were. Are there still Red Sox players who do? It's possible, but who knows. You can speculate all you want but you'll never know the truth without proof (i.e. a failed drug test or them caught with them).

I'm sure that if Ortiz or Wily Mo were on the Yankees you wouldn't make a this into a big deal, not like it is in the first place anyway consider no one (ESPN, Fox Sports, SI etc) has even picked up the Dominican steroid story or talked about it for what I've seen/heard. This is a non-subject. You're just trying to push the Sox down for no reason. That's fine, it just shows that you're a hater and posts like these are complete non-sense.

Don't even bother, Finkle. He's just pissed off that Wily Mo is making him and his comments look foolish.

And what's with the comment about a good week? Its clear that you have no idea what you're talking about after making an uneducated statement like that. Newsflash, Wily Mo has been great this year at the plate when he's gotten the chance to play. He saved our bacon by hitting .320 when Coco went down for those several weeks in the first half.

Basically everyone on this board besides Red Sox fans are now eating their words about the Arroyo - Pena deal. We've said it all along that things would turn around for Arroyo, but Red Sox haters wanted no part of it. It's hilarious.

Hey Strong Island, shouldn't we go back to our own thread and discuss the incredible addition of Cory Lidle to that dynamite rotation?

did papelbon give up the 2 runs in ninth??

EDIT:just saw the game highlights on espn

No, those runs were Hansen's. He let up 2 singles and they brought in Papelbon. Papelbon walked the first guy he faced, then an error by Cora (which would have been a game ending DP) let one of Hansen's runners in. Papelbon K'ed the next guy, walked the next (which let another one of Hansen's runs in) and finally got Mora to ground out to end the game.

Papelbon was very shakey today but got the job done.

Don't look now but are the Red Sox 1 game back? This race is far far from over.

The Yankees have been playing bad baseball this past week and the Sox took advantage of it finally over the weekend. The Sox face the Tigers who have been struggling so hopefully Beckett and Schilling step it up and make this weekends series vs. NY a little more pressure filled and exciting.

EDIT: he gave up 3 hits according to the box score:rolleyes:

Yes you're right, thank for Jered Weaver.

Hopefully Lackey puts the hammer down on the Yankees and Johnson tomorrow.

It's kind of a slow day around here, so I figured I'd post something to get everyone excited for the brutal stretch the Red Sox begin starting tonight against Detroit.

For all of you who read the Simmons article that compared Larry Bird to Big Papi, this video will not come as a surprise to you. However for all you Sox fans who didn't, this 30 second clip is such a classic. I can't tell you how many times I've watched it the past 2 years. It still gives me goosebumps to this very day.

Simmons referred to it as Blair Witch like, and he's definitely right about that.. Anyways, enjoy and don't forget to turn your speakers up!

No excuses tonight. Beckett needs to step it up. He came here to win big games and tonight is a very important one. He's been up and down all year and it's time to show his big game abilities that got himself and a team a ring in 2003.

Well Beckett didn't step up tonight. Neither has the offense so far. Francona needs to stop batting Wily Mo 7th or 8th. He's been the 2nd or 3rd best hitting since the ASB and he's burying the guy down in the bottom of the order. It's just terrible. I love Youkilis but the guy shouldn't be batting 5th, he should bat 1st, 2nd, 6th or 7th.
