lester in his rookie year has surpassed Beckett in the sox rotation

Ah I don't know. Lester hasn't been very good lately (but then again neither has Beckett) mainly because he throws 100 pitches before the 3rd inning. Both of those guys have a ton of talent. I think the more Lester pitches the better he'll be. Beckett is a mystery. He was so good the first 2 months and then since then has been up and down. He has a ton of talent but he just needs to figure out how to pitch. When he loses games its because he can't throw his curve for a strike and misses with his fastball.

Remember Lester is only 22 and Beckett is 26. Their best days are still to come I feel. I like their make up. They don't seem to be rattled and seem to be focused on the mound and very intense at times. They just need everything to click.

Whenever Beckett struggled here it was because he had blister problems (not huge ones just small ones) and he wouldnt tell the training staff or the Marlins let him pitch and didnt release that info (one or the other not sure)

I don't think it's because of blisters. I think he's just learning how the AL is different from the NL and you just can't over power hitters if you can't locate your off speed pitches for strikes.

I think next year he'll be a very different player, a more complete pitcher. I'm not worried about Beckett being able to pitch in the AL, he's not like Matt Clement.

I understand that to a point, but it doesnt really explain his great (or at least really good) start to the season

Good point there. I guess teams didn't have a scouting report on him or didn't see him? But you make an excellent point. Maybe he's hurt, who knows.

Francona blew any chance for the Red Sox to come back in this game. Why isn't Coco bunting with runners on 2nd and 1st with 0 outs? Just terrible managing. He's brain dead.

You bunt them over with Coco and hope Loretta can put the ball in play to try and score at least 1 run to put the game within 3 runs with Ortiz coming up next. Just terrible.

Im just wondering why he would be struggling so much, he obviously isnt being the same pitcher who shut out the Yankees in game 6 of the series

It could be that a lot of guys hadnt seen him before, but then again if he has just been throwing and not pitching I dont think that would have mattered.

Either way I hope he rights the ship soon because I hate the Yankees and when the Marlins arent contending (which is far to often) Im always pulling for the Sox

Like I said I think he'll be fine next year. He has too much talent not to do well, especially in a city like Boston. He has the mentality to compete so I think he'll turn it around. He just needs to work harder in the off season with his breaking stuff.

Man time about going right back to sucking. I'm not very confident in this team as I was in the beginning of the year. The pitching has failed and suddenly dropped off a cliff. I don't think this team will make the playoffs the way they're playing now and if they do it'll be a struggle. I keep saying people need to step up and they never do. No excuses, they haven't played well at all since early July.

Again I don't blame Theo for not making a move for someone because I do like the future this team has. I don't care how some of them have been doing recently (Papelbon, Lester, Delcarmen) these kids are going to be good.

not to bag on boston or new england or anything but i was watching NESN yesterday during the game. Who was that in the booth during one point in the game? Dennis leary or whatever his name is? Sorry but he was soooo annoying raving about youkalis being jewish and just yelling and it lasted like 3 innings! I couldn't watch it. go YES station! lol

Yeah Dennis Leary and the other guy were annoying but there's no way that the YES announcing team is better than NESN. The station itself is better but the team of Don and Remy are way better than Michael Kay and the other ones. It's no contest.
