The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Nice job last night again by Wells.. If we can get any type of decent pitching our bats have been decent.. I think we have the worst era since the break, it has been ugly..

Red Sox got Eric Hinske and cash from the Blue Jays for a player to be named later. No a bad move. Hinske can play 1st, 3rd, LF or RF. He's a left handed hitter and former ROY winner and is signed already for the 2007 season. Hopefully he helps out this weekend vs. NY.

He's good against Righties.

Jason Johnson dug himself an early hole in the 1st inning, but he did a great job getting out of the inning only allowing 1 run.

Lets get the bats going baby!

Answers that question, 3 for 3 so far. Looks good.

Too bad he was batting 7th in the order instead of 5th or 6th. The game might have been a lot different.

I checked up Hinske's numbers vs. Wang and he owns him in his career, because at first I was surprised he was starting today.

Well I didn't figure the Sox were going to win this game due to the match ups. Francona better have a different line up tonight, meaning:

Youk, Loretta, Ortiz, Manny, Pena, Lowell, Coco, Mirabelli, Gonzo

He can't have Youk batting 5th because that's still no protection for Manny (although it is an upgrade from Nixon). Francona doesn't like Pena for some reason and just continues to bury him down in the line up.

Lester needs a good game tonight. The Sox should pound Fat Boy Ponson tonight but there are no guarantees the way this team has been playing lately. If the Sox win tonight than this day is no big deal. The Sox have to at least win this series 3 games to 2.

Well the Red Sox aren't going anywhere this season. The pitching especially in the pen (minus Papelbon) is flat out bad. For whatever reason the team has just fell flat. You can blame injuries, a lot of rookies on the team, whatever but it would just be excuses. The team just isn't good. The FO made some mistakes this season (Bard trade for Mirabelli, Riske for Lopez). Now I'm even more happy they didn't do anything dumb at the deadline because no one can help this team right now.

I'm not throwing in the towel on this series. Beckett hasn't been good this year, but he's proven that he's capable of spinning a beauty every once and a while. Schilling tomorrow, then the Yankees throw Cory Lidle on Monday.

Winning this series is most certainly not out of the question.

Oh I agree, however I don't think the team will make the playoffs and if they due I'm not sure if they'll make it far. The pen is just terrible right now. The only one who can get outs is Papelbon. Why on earth was Craig Breslow sent down? He pitched well, is a lefty, and you have to go with a hot hand when everyone else stinks.

Don't get me wrong, I think Hansen and Delcarmen are going to be good players but they're still young and inexperienced. The vets like Timlin and Taveras (even Foulke and Seanez) should have stepped it up this year instead of having to depend on the rookies.

I like Lester, I know he hasn't pitched well but that just comes with experience. He's 22 years old. And will get better. But this year I don't expect much other than 5 innings, 4 runs, and a bunch of walks.

The rest of the year will be brutal, but next year we will be happy we still have all these great young arms.. Our pitching staff is brutal, I hope we sign nothing but pitchers in the offseason..

Man, we gotta lift the spirits up in here. This thing ain't over!

Credit goes to Finkle for finding this gem...
