OK, it is time to have an official thread dedicated to the 2007 NL East Champs, and the team that will repeat in 2008. Like Jimmy Rollins said, "We're the team to beat in the NL East."

This thread will be dedicated to everything involving the Phightins. We don't discriminate, so other NL East team's fans are welcome here, just keep the smack to a minimum. :lol:

i think the Phils have a decent chance at winning the wild card, i just don't know if they have the pitching to match up with the mets in a short series....
 
I was very happy they resigned Romero, he was huge down the stretch last season...and hopefully Lidge can come back to his old form and our bullpen can be lights out again

The reports I have read is he could actually be ready by opening day, but most likely they will have Gordon doing the closing duties through mid to late April. Looks like Myers will stay as a starter.

It's very rare for two teams in the same division to match up in the playoffs.....but I think the WC will likely come out of the NL East rather than the NL West where all the teams are pretty equal, and we don't have to worry about the NL Central. :wink:

Love the Phillies 2008 thread. I read somewhere that Rollins wanted 100 wins this year but not sure where I read it. Sorry, no link. That would be amazing if they did that though. If they can just change 10 losses from early in the year to wins and have the year like last year without injuries, shouldn't be a problem. *crosses fingers*
 
It was conceivable last year for the Phillies to win 100 games had Howard, Utley, Victorino, Hamels, Myers and Gordon not missed significant time due to injury. They still won 89 games and the division, in part to the Mets collapse, but had they stayed remotely healthy they would NEVER have been down 7 games in September to the Mets. Plus they did dominate them in head to head meetings.

Santana is going to be a big problem for the Phillies IMO. They already struggle against left handers and he is the best left hander in baseball.

But if both teams are healthy, and Myers pitches well as a starter again, i think the Phillies have as good a shot as the Mets to win the east.
