So the 72 Dolphins' opponents winning percentage was .364... Okay, in response to the criticism of our phins so-called "weak" sched and the inevitable comparison to this year's colts here's the opponents winning percentages of the teams NFL fans consider great:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/index.htm

Packers
1966 (12-2 record) - .428
1967 (9-4-1 record) - .464

Colts
1970 (11-2-1 record) - .350

Cowboys
1971 (11-3 record) - .386

Steelers
1974 (10-3-1 record) - .429
1975 (12-2 record) - .442
1978 (14-2 record) - .447

Raiders
1976 (13-1 record) - .468

49ers
1984 (15-1 record) - .409
1989 (14-2 record) - .452

Is there really that much of a difference? No, so why couldn't the other teams go undefeated? This goes out to the other teams fans who deem it necessary to slight the 72 accomplishment.

actually there is a big difference. and who has said the 70 colts are great?

the 84 niners are pretty impressive

In addition, it seems to always be forgotten that the 15-0 Dolphins, despite the obvious best record in the league, had to travel on the road to three rivers stadium to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game, in the cold, and beat them to continue the perfect season. If your going to criticize the strength of the regular season schedule you have to consider this fact as well.

The rules were different then, Indy will NOT HAVE to go on the road for the AFC Championship.

Miami also went to three straight Superbowls and won back to backs, a fluke pass by Stabler in the 1974 playoffs may have stopped this great team from winning an unprecedented 3 straight Superbowls.

.... the "sea of hands" catch still makes me sick and wish that it falls incomplete or to ask for review of whether Stabler's knee was down before he threw it. Of course they didn't have review back then. I'm just glad now we are beating the Raiders regulary....I think 7 or 8 in a row is it?, They are still one of just a few teams with a winning record against us.

Also didnt Grease go down sometime in the middle of the season and they had to put in their backup for a few games?? I'd like to see Mannings backup win 2 or 3 games!!

Griese got hurt in game 6, Morrall played from then until halftime of the AFC Championship game.

yeah they were good, but when people talk about the all-time great teams, they're NEVER mentioned

it's useless, my fellow Dolfans... because any moment now, nyjunc will come into this thread and pontificate, so as to discredit our past achievements...

does it matter? the 72 Phins beat the Chiefs, the Steelers, The Vikings, The Browns the Redskins, destroyed the Vikings the following year too, and would have beaten the CryBoys had they met also. So i dont see what the problem is anyway. The only teams they didn't beat in 72 who were of any threat were the Packers, Raiders and Cowboys, and with the Raider history of choking and the Packers not really being THAT impressive they would have beaten them too.

The thing people ignore is that not only did Miami have the best win % for any 1 season, they also had the best ever 2 season record and the best ever 3 season record.
