i know people may say,'' its way to early for playoff talk, etc''. well imo it is not way to early. we are already in week 9 of the nfl season, and as the calendar turned to november, i believe we can start looking at the playoff situation right now.

right now here is how it looks.

afc east-
1. pats- 6-1 , 2-1 division
2. jets- 5-2, 3-0 division
3. dolphins 4-3, 1-2 division
4. bills 0-7, 0-3 division

afc north-

ravens 5-2
steelers 5-2
bengals 2-5
browns 2-5

afc south

colts-5-2
titans-5-3
texans-4-3
jaguars-4-4

afc west-

chiefs-5-2
raiders-4-4
chargers-3-5
broncos-2-6

so there are the current standings. right now the way it looks, you have an afc west team getting in, and then there r 5 spots left for 8 teams being the pats, jets, fins, titans, colts, texans, steelers, ravens, and if u want to count the jags, then 9.

the way it looks for us now, we obviously all know it will be very difficult to win the division being we lost to the pats and jets already, and we are 2 games back of the pats with 9 to go. if we were to lose this week coupled with a pats win, although i am not giving up on the division, i think it would be pretty safe to forget about the division being we would be 3 games back and then 4 because we dont have the tiebreaker with 8 games left. hopefully that situation wont happen.

as for the wildcard standings here is how they look now.

1.steelers 5-2
2.jets- 5-2
3.titans 5-3
4.dolphins -4-3
5.texans -4-3
6.raiders 4-4
7.jaguars 4-4

the way it stands right now, we are 1 game back only of the ravens. if we win this week, we take over the 2nd wildcard spot due to having the tiebreaker over baltimore,(this assuming pittsburgh beats cincy which would put pitt back in first and baltimore in the wildcard spot again) which would lead to a monumental game vs the titans the following week. However, if we lose[ we wont lose but if we do] we are in a bad situation being technically 3 games back of baltimore due to them having the tiebreaker over us, which would be a very tough spot to overcome.

bottom line, this week is a gigantic week for us. it can be the difference between going on a roll and controlling our own fate in the wildcard standings, [ hopefully we still get division but that looks like a tough task do as of now] compared to having to need lots of help down the road to get in.

P.S, although we all want to win the division and all, if we dont, and we get the first wildcard spot [5th seed] i was thinking, could that actually be better in a way? i mean, u play who ur going to play, and u dont ever try to lose to get easier matchups, but right now it looks like the odds are that the afc west winner would be the 4th seed, meaning the first wildcard team would get a matchup with them in the first round. i believe, that would be a lot easier a task than having a home game vs a team like baltimore or tenn, etc.

again, not saying i want the wildcard, as i rather win out, go 13-3, and get a first round bye and homefield throughout, but this year, it wouldnt be the worst thing.

bottomline though, although this thread may be a bit premature, this game is like a playoff game. we win, we are in real real solid shape. however, we lose, division title hopes r prob dead being that we would most likely be 3 games behind the pats in the standings plus them having the tiebreaker making it 4, and we would technically be 3 games back of baltimore due to them having the tiebreaker over us.

Lets do this boys, although it may seem a little early still, thanksgiving is right around the corner, and the season will be over before you blink. MUST Win this week.:thanks:

This next 2 games are must wins...Unless the Jets, Ravens , Titans tank the rest of the year and we keep winning.

Just to let you know that the Steelers would be the leading Wild Card team due to the fact that the Ravens beat them earlier this year. So the Ravens would have the division. Also, I believe the Fins would be behind the Texans due to the fact that they have a better conference record than the Fins. But all in all, it looks like the Fins have a shot and need to win all the winnable games and beat 2 good teams and they should be in.

well either way its the same thing, because we lost to pitt so they have the tiebreaker over us also now. the best thing for fins fans are that we beat baltimore, and pittsburgh wins that division.

Kinda early isn't it?!?!

I say its never too early..

Gotta root for teams out of the playoff race to beat teams in the playoff race..

One game at a time..

Always use your rooting powers for NFC teams to beat AFC teams as well..

Not that rooting actually does anything but at least you can pretend it does!

at this point, we are still in control of our own destiny right? all we gotta do is win baby.

The bottom line here is if we win the next 2 we will really be in great shape. Think about it, the Pats still need to play Pittsburgh, Indy, Green Bay, the Jets again and us again there is some tough games there. Not to mention pesky Detroit who seems to be getting better every week. The Jets still have games with Pittsburgh, Cincy (revenge?), Houston, NE again and us again and we all have pesky Detroit as well. What really Really sucks is how we got 2 AFC playoff contenders coming off byes 2 weeks in a row (Baltimore this week and Tennessee next).

I hate having the Margin for error being so small, the AFC is so freakin tough. However, if we cannot beat the AFC playoff field (losses to Bal or Ten or both) we don’t belong in the playoffs anyway.

Thanks for the updated info. Every time I have typed that "a victory would be a huge statement" for this team, they have lost, and this is one of those statement games.

I am REALLY hoping that changes because the Dolphins have a way of losing right when the fanbase gets behind them again. This team needs some consecutive wins under its belt.

in football, i would say technically its never to early as there are 16 games in a season, which is a small enough number as it is. granted we are in november almost at the halfway point, its not to early imo.

we could maybe sticky this thread and update it every week.

i agree man, we must win this game. its about time our fins get a win in a huge statement game. at 4 pm sunday, we can be looking great, or we can be in dire situation of help along the way. hopefully its the first one.

If we beat the Ravans and Titans we will be 6 and 3 . If the season ended there we would be the last wild card (all games away).
Way too early but we usually go on a 3 or 4 game winning streak about now so it's all in our hands.

ur rite, the pats do have some tough games left, but the fact is, 4 of there tough games left r at home, and they just find ways to win no matter wat. i see them beating cleveland, buffalo, the jets at home[ dont see them losing twice to the jets] bears, which would give them 10 wins right there.

as much as we dont want them to beat detroit, i highly doubt in the end new england loses to detroit, but hey it can happen.

out of playing pittsburgh, us, indy, and greenbay, the toughest game for them will prob be next sunday night in pitt. if they go into heinz field and beat the steelers, it will just be really hard to see them losing a lot more games the rest of the way.

as for the jets, they have a pretty light schedule for the most part. they got some tough games vs pitt, new england, and us in december, but the one thing u said about cincy possibly beating them, i hope so, and u never know in the nfl, but cincy just looks awful.

i honestly think the browns got a better shot at beating the jets than the bengals do.

bottom line, next 2 games r huge. we must win them both, no ifs ands or buts.
