Active Roster
i know people may say,'' its way to early for playoff talk, etc''. well imo it is not way to early. we are already in week 9 of the nfl season, and as the calendar turned to november, i believe we can start looking at the playoff situation right now.
right now here is how it looks.
afc east-
1. pats- 6-1 , 2-1 division
2. jets- 5-2, 3-0 division
3. dolphins 4-3, 1-2 division
4. bills 0-7, 0-3 division
afc north-
ravens 5-2
steelers 5-2
bengals 2-5
browns 2-5
afc south
colts-5-2
titans-5-3
texans-4-3
jaguars-4-4
afc west-
chiefs-5-2
raiders-4-4
chargers-3-5
broncos-2-6
so there are the current standings. right now the way it looks, you have an afc west team getting in, and then there r 5 spots left for 8 teams being the pats, jets, fins, titans, colts, texans, steelers, ravens, and if u want to count the jags, then 9.
the way it looks for us now, we obviously all know it will be very difficult to win the division being we lost to the pats and jets already, and we are 2 games back of the pats with 9 to go. if we were to lose this week coupled with a pats win, although i am not giving up on the division, i think it would be pretty safe to forget about the division being we would be 3 games back and then 4 because we dont have the tiebreaker with 8 games left. hopefully that situation wont happen.
as for the wildcard standings here is how they look now.
1.steelers 5-2
2.jets- 5-2
3.titans 5-3
4.dolphins -4-3
5.texans -4-3
6.raiders 4-4
7.jaguars 4-4
the way it stands right now, we are 1 game back only of the ravens. if we win this week, we take over the 2nd wildcard spot due to having the tiebreaker over baltimore,(this assuming pittsburgh beats cincy which would put pitt back in first and baltimore in the wildcard spot again) which would lead to a monumental game vs the titans the following week. However, if we lose[ we wont lose but if we do] we are in a bad situation being technically 3 games back of baltimore due to them having the tiebreaker over us, which would be a very tough spot to overcome.
bottom line, this week is a gigantic week for us. it can be the difference between going on a roll and controlling our own fate in the wildcard standings, [ hopefully we still get division but that looks like a tough task do as of now] compared to having to need lots of help down the road to get in.
P.S, although we all want to win the division and all, if we dont, and we get the first wildcard spot [5th seed] i was thinking, could that actually be better in a way? i mean, u play who ur going to play, and u dont ever try to lose to get easier matchups, but right now it looks like the odds are that the afc west winner would be the 4th seed, meaning the first wildcard team would get a matchup with them in the first round. i believe, that would be a lot easier a task than having a home game vs a team like baltimore or tenn, etc.
again, not saying i want the wildcard, as i rather win out, go 13-3, and get a first round bye and homefield throughout, but this year, it wouldnt be the worst thing.
bottomline though, although this thread may be a bit premature, this game is like a playoff game. we win, we are in real real solid shape. however, we lose, division title hopes r prob dead being that we would most likely be 3 games behind the pats in the standings plus them having the tiebreaker making it 4, and we would technically be 3 games back of baltimore due to them having the tiebreaker over us.
Lets do this boys, although it may seem a little early still, thanksgiving is right around the corner, and the season will be over before you blink. MUST Win this week.:thanks:
