How many QBs have we drafted since Marino retired?

How can we complain that the garbage from other teams arent miraculously becoming Super Bowl QBs?

How many teams have landed a franchise QB via free agency or trade and won a Super Bowl with that QB at the helm?

Off the top of my head? Baltimore won, Seattle went, Green Bay went and won, Giants went, Tampa won, Oakland went, Carolina went, St Louis went and won, Atlanta went...

In fact, of the past 20 Super Bowl participants, 11 had QBs they signed as a FA or traded for.

Not that I expected you to check your facts or anything

LOL!! So at the end of this season we Ignore our biggest problems and Draft a QB?

no, just saying our team has been trying to defy all odds for the past 6 years.

i think culpepper is our guy.

just thought it was kinda rediculous that we havent even drafted one QB since marino retired, that i can remember, if we did then he must have been "awesome" and gone unnoticed

Here we go again.

I said franchise QBs. Of your list only Favre and Warner qualify. And they were shots in the dark.

Hasselback and Farve were both specifically acquired. Rich Gannon put together multiple good seasons including one MVP season for the Raiders. Brad Johnson is not a "franchise" QB but has started multiple years. Jake Delhomme has been the starter for Carolina for a few years, a Pro Bowler, and it looks like they intend on treating him as their "franchise" QB for the forseeable future.

Arguably only Kerry Collins, Chris Chandler, and Trent Dilfer were "trash pile", and they still took their teams to the Super Bowl per your original statement

Lastly, that Drew Brees, whew, he sure looks like a franchise QB.

And yet again I must tell you how wrong you are.

I said FRANCHISE QBS that WON a Super Bowl

Therefore Favre and Warner are the only ones that qualify. Compare that to the number of drafted franchise QBs and you have the odds heavily stacked towards the draft.

ALSO....

Drew Brees doesnt fall into the "taking other teams trash and turning them into a super bowl qb" because WE DIDNT TAKE HIM.

Nice job LSSpam...had to ruin a rhetorical question with facts.

A franchise can get a FA qb and win with one, agreed. The original poster I presume is of the opinion that we should groom a drafted qb. That can work too. There is a guy who use to wear a #13 drafted a few decades a go who worked out well. Or, a team like those listed above can hit a jackpot (long lived or short lived) with the right qb at the right time.

Its about picking the right player to the best of ability regardless of draft or Free Agency. A crapshot at times. Its all a judgement call. The ability to accurately read the data on players, use deductive reasoning, read character and intelligence, and a good shot of luck.

Honestly I want to see what Daunte can do completely recovered with no hint of issues with his knee. It would be a shame that he does not get that chance. From what I have seen of Joey H. all can be said is that he can be capable but does not have the look of a franchise qb and can not certainly carry a team on his back.

You don't consider Josh Heupel or John Dutton as commited efforts to bring in a top future QB talent?

It's simply unbelievable how long QB has been ignored.

You're arguing semantics. If your point was to prove that it's impossible to acquire a franchise QB via trade or Free Agency, you are obviously incorrect.

Delhomme, Hasselback, Farve, Brees, Trent Green, etc. All Franchise quality QBs.

If you are solely talking about Super Bowl winning QBs, then Trent Dilfer has won as many Super Bowls as "franchise QBs taken in the first round" in the past 6 years (that is, 1, Roethlisberger). If you want to narrow it even further in a desperate attempt to save face even at the cost of making your point hopelessly worthless to "franchise" QBs who won a Super Bowl.....then you have two "Franchise" QBs to win in this century. And one was a 6th round pick.

You guys are having a great argument and all but I think the overall point of his post was that we've failed as a franchise to bring in any talent at the QB position through the draft for over a decade. Yes you can win with a FA acquisition but the bottom line is that you want to build a team as much as you can through the draft and we've failed miserably in that area.

That is exactly the point. We have failed so far with FA (although hope is reserved by this fan for C-Pep and Joey H) and have not developed a qb we have drafted in some time. Facts are facts. If C-Pep never gets his second chance with us and Harrington completely bombs out by the end of this season then what does that leave 2007 and beyond? With the issues at OL and safetys who can't cover and WRs still dropping passes and an aging DL etc etc. will our qb situation dictate day 1 decision making one Saturday afternoon next April?

Im not argueing anything other than that which i posted.

Dont tell me what my point is.

My point is that YOU ARE TAKING THE WRONG POINT!!!!

My point is that FRANCHISE QBS THAT WIN SUPER BOWLS COME FROM THE DRAFT!!!!

Delhomme, Hasselback, Farve, Brees, Trent Green, etc. All Franchise quality QBs.

of your list, which somehow non super bowl QBs have now made their way onto, only Favre and Warner have rings.

Then you want to compare a garbage QB that was carried to a ring by the best defense argueably of alltime to 6 year group of young QBs. How is that even a comparison?

You say 2 franchise Qbs have won a super bowl this century. That would be Big Ben and Brady who account for 4 of the 6 Super Bowls in this century. Happens to be that both of them came from the draft. Thanks for making my point for me. If you want to go back further than 6 years into the past to prove me wrong then go ahead and try.

The FACT is that DRAFTED FRANCHISE QBS WIN SUPER BOWLS.
