I spent most of the afternoon listening to the Sirius Radio camp coverage today, and I must say Harvey Greene did a great job of teaching the players not to answer questions. Every interview they did the players basically just rephrased the question into an answer. 99% of sports interviews are utterly useless. If you can get insight from interview is so rare, and most of these guys are amazingly boring to listen to as they are obviously trying not to say anything controversial or interesting. Every sentence begins with "Yea", or "you know" as they stall to figure out a way to say as little possible in as long of an answer as possible.

When I read the title, i thought this thread was about my girlfriend...

I was thinking that same thing after watching some of the player video interviews on miamidolphins.com. State your mantra in response to any question, and then re-state variations on that same theme until the question changes. Then work your tried and true answer back into the next question. I found the whole thing quite humorous... although I can imagine it's frustrating when you have to turn such an interview into an article.

Having said that, I do prefer a "boring" answer from a generally decent human being to the pompous self-idolatry from so many of the athletes around the league. So it really is a case of "pick your poison."

Listening to Vonnie Holiday right now and he actually is pretty smart and interesting. He may have a broadcasting career when he's done.
