Starts with a solid pass rush. Thats how it goes. And no, i'm not saying we need to blitz more. We just need to step up our defenisve front effort. I'm looking at the secondary and everytime a ball gets thrown i almost expect a completion because we are so thin in our secondary its not even funny.

However, i dont feel such is the case with pass rushers. Merling, Langford, Starks, Porter, Holliday, Roth.

This rotation is solid IMO. They just need to step it up, and i wouldnt be calling for them to do so if i did not firmly believe that the potential is there. We are great against the run, but we need to do a better job of creating penetration and making quarterbacks shaky.

If we can achieve this without exposing ourselves in the secondary (by this i mean not blitzing 3 or more LB's and safties at a time) then our defense becomes more of an asset. Right now, its a bit of a liability. Every week has been a nail-biter in one way or another and the only reasonable solution i can think of (at this point in the season) is for the defensive front to step the hell up in obvious passing situations.

I dont want to live and die by the blitz, and i dont think alot of people here want to either.

just think next week we face the raiers...julius peppers got 3 sacks and 3 FF...imagine what the sack leader Joey porter is gonna do :)

You don't usually see great pass rushing linemen in a 3-4 D, they usually rely on LB's attacking by "surprise" via the blitz. I say surprise because there are 4 single blitz options and many combinations. It would be great to have pass rushing linemen but thats not really the job.

The real problem with our D-line is youth...which is a good thing. They will learn to get around the blockers...the future looks good, but it may take a little time.
