For those still harboring unreasonable expectations for this years team, please read the following sobering commentary from PFW.
  • We hear that the preseason games have confirmed coach Nick Saban’s concerns about the lack of quality depth on the Dolphins’ roster. Miami’s first team has more than held its own vs. opposing starters. However, the second and third teams have been regularly outplayed, shining a spotlight on the Dolphins’ woeful draft history in recent years. None of team’s draft picks from 2000 is on the roster. The only guys left from ’01 are WR Chris Chambers and RB Travis Minor. The only ’02 draft picks still on the team are C Seth McKinney and TE Randy McMichael. The ’03 draft has the makings of a disaster. Three of the ’03 picks  WR J.R. Tolver (fifth round), OT Tim Provost (sixth round) and DT Davern Williams (seventh round) were long ago released. LB Eddie Moore (second round) just started practicing recently after coming back from a knee injury. C-OT Wade Smith (third round) is out with a fractured forearm/wrist, and his future with the team is in doubt. OG Taylor Whitley (third round) is battling to earn a reserve role. TE Donald Lee (fifth round) has been dropped to third string behind Lorenzo Diamond due to inconsistent play and could get cut. LB Corey Jenkins (sixth round) is on the bubble as a special-teams guy and backup. FS Yeremiah Bell (sixth round) is the only one of his draft class making a positive impact as the starting free safety.

i think also the less skilled players its tougher to grasp a new system... a guy like JT hes so athletic even if he makes a mistake in executing the system he can make up for it with athletic ability...

but now you have these less capable guys learning a new system and when they make a mistake they cant make up for it... i think the complexity of the defense is really tough on the backups especially considering they dont get at much work at it as the first teamers

Can't argue with any of that. The sad truth is if we suffer any major injuries we could be in trouble.

However, most teams have one or two weak depth positions.

On the money!

Your dead on the money with this one. I love the Dolphins but we must face the facts...Saban inherited a MESS! It will be a couple seasons before the once mighty Fins are a power to be recogned with again. Any hope beyond that is simply unrealistic. We (fans) must give Saban time.

I think we're in trouble already...an injury would just make it worse.

Now I'm as big a fan as the next guy...but the bottom line is this...

This team, as it stands, is just not very good. We really are a couple of seasons away from competing for anything more than a high draft pick...I, for one, will enjoy watching some of these younger players develop and watching this team grow into a true contender. Saban has us on the right track...its just gonna be a bit of a long road.

Hope for the best...but prepare for the worst folks...I think its gonna get ugly around Dolphin-Land.

I believe it is more like this.

No major injuries...we are in a lot of close games b/c of defense and running the ball..we could win as many as 9 games (more likely 6 to 8). I believe the O-line gets better during the yr.

One or two major injuries, especially at O-line or corner or JT...we could be back at 4 wins. I have said it on other posts I have made...our backups stink up the place.

I cant believe I havent read some putz's post stating that you are all wrong and the Dolphins are going to the Superbowl this year.

You are all crazy. Miami will be undeafeted and Super Bowl Champs. Feely will throw fro 6000 yards and no inertceptions.

As guido13 says, I feel that we will win them all and go to the Superbowl every year!

But the little voice inside me :fire: says be happy with 8 wins!

so whats the name of the guy who drafted all those guys?

have yall fired him yet??

How long do you guys think it will be before we get a FIRE SABAN thread?? I give it one week into the season.

going by the depth chart and preseason performance, when the dust settles the dolphins will only have 8 players remaining (chris chambers, seth mckinney, randy mcmichael, yeremiah bell, vernon carey, will poole, rex hadnot and derrick pope) from the 35 draft picks selected in the 5 year spielstedt era. that's only 22% and i would imagine puts us somewhere near the bottom percentile of the league.

also, of our 11 first-day picks (rounds 1-3), only 3 players remain (chambers, mckinney and carey). obviously, after this season that number will drop to just 2.
the numbers don't lie....
-no players from the 2000 draft are still here (6 picks).

there will only be:
-1 (chambers) from 2001 (9 picks).
-2 (mckinney, mcmichael) from 2002 (5 picks).
-1 (bell) from 2003 (9 picks).
-4 from 2004 (it's still early lol).

from 2000 to 2003 that's 4 players remaining from 29 draft picks! unreal....

i think someone from PFW reads these boards
