It’s looking more and more like the Tampa deal could go through with our Phins getting #5, #36 and #71 for the #2 pick. Gruden is not hiding his amore for Alex Smith. Obviously he feels he can caoch Smith up into a top tier QB.

So assuming we have the following picks, I would draft the following:

1 (5) – Cadillqac Williams
- With the chance of getting Ricky Williams back, it will be nice to have the elusive back and the power back in the fold. Williams & Co. could become a real threat for opposing defenses (see Atlanta’s Dunn and Duckett) for more. Of the three RB’s available, Cadillace has the most elusiveness of the bunch plus Saban has seen Cadillac up close for four years. To me, this would be the “safest†choice at #5 with Williams able to step in immediately into the #1 role.

2 (36) – Matt Jones
-I think here is where you can take a chance on a potentially dominating player. With the right coaching, Jones could mature into a terrific player. He’s got the intangibles and Saban has already called him the best player in the SEC the last two years running. His size speed combo will be a tremendous asset to Linehan. Take the chance here and our offense could be great. Imagine Jones working the slot in the base 3 receiver set. You think a Safety is going to be able to cover this guy? No way. And if the opposing defense lines up a CB on Jones that’s an automatic hot read. Jones will win that match up every time.

***The next two picks in the third round, we should go for injured players whose value has dropped because they couldn’t workout at the combine.

3 (70) – Andrew Walter
-Guy has a cannon for an arm and is the perfect choice to groom behind Feeley. A year of experience under his belt and time to heal and Walter will be ready to challenge Ferrotte next year as Feeley’s back up. Our Oline will become a powerful one that relies on solid protection – a system that strong-armed immoble QB’s like Feeley and Walter can thrive in. Not many realize how good Walter really is. He hurt his throwing shoulder mid season and would have been right up there with Smith and Rodgers had he remained healthy.

3 (71) – Ben Wilkerson
-Saban’s leader on offense for four years. A warrior at LSU who’s draft stock fell following an injury. Saban knows how good he is and how good he can become. He’ll come in as a rookie and challenge McKinney and Smith right away for the starting spot.

4 (98) – Ronald Fields
-We need to start filling in the depth behind Chester and Timbo. Kevin Carter is a short term fix at the other DT spot, but we need a good young run stopper as insurance behind our two recovering vets.

5 (130) – Chase Lyman
- This would be insurance against the Matt Jones pick. If you watched any of Cal’s games you know who the go-to guy was. It was Lyman. He was added to the draft late because he was denied his final year of eligibility by the NCAA. The guy has great hands, great size and adequate speed. He’s been injured most of his collegiate career, but when healthy is a top flight performer. He could fall to the fifth round and if he does we should nab him.

Oooh....Caddy and Matt Jones would be sweet. One prob though, there is no way Jones gets passed Pittsburgh at #26 or whatever they're and there isn't a chance in hell NE doesn't scoop him up at 31.

I'd rather take Mike Williams or Braylon and then JJ Arrington in the second round. It isn't impossible for him to make it to #36 IMO.

Drafting two white recievers in the same year could and should never happen.

Cadillac williams is my personal favorate among the big 3 at Rb. Trading down and still being able to get him would be HUGE.

A couple of things.

First of all, the plan you have laid out is very good. That's a great draft.

The thing is, I wouldn't bank on that Tampa Bay trade just yet. I haven't heard anything yet that suggest that a trade is imminent.

I question whether or not I would take Cadillac over Ronnie Brown or Cedric Benson though. In this situation, I believe Benson will be off the board, since Chicago wants him. Determining which of these backs is the best is like splitting hairs though. I have reservations on Cadillac's durability, but that doesn't take away from his immense talent.

Very well said KB..

I wonder about a Qb....McPherson, or Greene for me, and maybe a tutoring for LeFlores

I love this mock! Fills alot of positions we need. I too do not think Jones will make it into the second, it would be great if he did. Also I would take Mcpherson over Walters, but all in all great mock, and well thought out.

If we trade down with TB, and Rodgers and Smith are off the board after the first two picks, Id say there is a very very good chance that Ronnie Brown will be staring us in the face at five.

I like Caddy more than Brown, I definitley wouldnt be disappointed with Brown or even Benson, but I like Caddy alot more than both of them.

Tutoring won't make LeFors grow.

one thing i dont like is taking players with injury histories... thats the best way to waste a pick and money on guys who are always hurt... especially wilkerson when in the 3rd we could get maybe vince carter or jason brown instead... im all for walter though being his injury was just a shoulder seperation that shouldn't be a concern... im still not for matt jones though, id rather get a proven reciever that high, like mathis or reggie brown or terrance murphy... but if we got one of the big 3 RBs, walter and maybe we could even get hawthorne instead of fields in the 4th now that all this **** came out about him with weed and hes been dropping at DT, id be happy...

i like it, but i'd change walters for Mcpherson. and whoever said NE would pick jones, i'd say what they need the most is LB so it probably won't happen, and Pittsburgh already signed a WR to replace Plax

ya pit will pass on Jones but philly wont at 31. it would be sweet to nab him in the second though. so you guys think that chicago will take benson over brown? has chicago been really fond of benson lately?
