What's the deal with Billy Turner? I've seen his college tapes and he looks like a stud at left tackle. I know he went to a small school. Do you think he is cable of being a starting tackle or guard in the NFL? I was ecstatic when Miami drafted him. Please give me your thoughts on him. If he can develope properly we wouldnt have to spend a high draft pick on an oline. Instead we can go corner because that is our biggest need going forward because you have to look and see how this squad will look in a few years.

I don't know what to think about him. The thing is if he was going to be a star in this league wouldn't you think he would be good enough to at least be active on Sundays? He doesn't even dress much less play a snap this season. That concerns me.

One would think. Of course, one would also think that Dallas Thomas would never start in this league again, but alas...

he's raw. he needed to sit and learn. check back during training camp and preseason next year and see if he is challenging for a starting guard spot. i'd like to think all that size and talent can be molded into a productive player. i don't read anything into him not seeing the field this year.

When they said turf toe for Billy, it shouted SET BACK for a small school rookie. Turf toe is not easy to overcome.

3 reasons he hasnt played:

1. He is from a small school and it takes time to jump from the second level College athletes to the best in the world.

2. His injury at the start of the year set him back.

3. He was switched to guard so combine the first two with learning a new position and add we had Thomas, colledge, smith, and pouncey in front of him for the guard spots.

4.))) joe isn't suddenly going to go against his... rookies sit on the bench for a season rule for every rookie on the team.

I have no idea where the guy is at. I had heard rumblings that he wasn't doing great at guard, and that he may be better suited for tackle, and when Albert went down, I thought we might see him at either right or left tackle at some point, but instead we stuck with the scrub (Thomas). With a normal coaching staff, I'd say he was probably totally lost, but with Philbin, you never know. He could be in great shape, and ready to play any position, and there is no guarantee Philbin would put him out there.

apparently he is an animal in the run game but is still learning how to pass protect as a LG, giving him the year to learn doesnt bother me, this might not work, but if it does he could potentially be a really great o lineman

One of the problems with the NFL is that inseason there is very little room for players to develop if not playing, which goes back to my whole there needs to be a reserve/development league rant

That makes so much sense.

Since Jarvis Landry, Ja'wuan James, Damian Williams (UDFA), Terrence Fede, Chris McCain (UDFA), Walt Aikens get playing time.

Thats 6 rookies playing.

I think the whole Philbin and rookies not playing issue is a myth based on the players you have listed and others over the last couple of years....however, I also think if Joe doesn't feel a player is ready or performing well in practice, he has no problem sitting him on the bench until he is ready. Frankly....I have no problem with that.

Lets face it, some rookies are better prepared then others. No big secret....

All but your 3rd point make sense...our guard played sucked....and When Juwan had to move to left tackle...our right tackle played sucked.

No because of his toe injury, which must've been turf toe? Idk, but its pretty obvious at this point that philbin takes his time with roster moves and if you miss the first half of the season due to injury you probably wont see the field for weeks after either, unless he is forced to. I'm more of the mind to play your players when you can so they can get better. This season could've had much more growth from a player standpoint. Williams, tripp, jordan, and turner all shouldve gotten more reps imo.

there is a huge difference between letting a rookie start, and letting a rookie see the field. Of course, I shouldn't have to explain that to you.
