The Chicago White Sox Thread

White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, was at it again, picking a fight, this time with World Series MVP David Eckstein. Pierzynski got into a shoving match with the Cardinals' Eckstein at a Total Nonstop Action Wrestling event on Sunday in Orlando. Also in the melee, Pierzynski ally Dale Torborg, the White Sox conditioning coach and son of Jeff Torborg, slugged Eckstein's brother.

The White Sox added a reliable veteran to back up starting catcher A.J. Pierzynski on Sunday, agreeing to a two-year deal with a club option for the 2009 season with free-agent backstop Toby Hall, who spent last year with the Devil Rays and Dodgers.

The White Sox added a quality left-handed arm to their bullpen on Saturday, obtaining Andrew Sisco, 23, from the Royals in exchange for outfielder/first baseman Ross Gload. Over the last two seasons in Kansas City, Sisco is 3-8 with a 4.86 ERA.

With Christmas just days away, White Sox general manager Kenny Williams put a few extra gifts under the tree, acquiring highly regarded pitching prospects John Danks, Nick Masset and Jacob Rasner from Texas for Brandon McCarthy and David Paisano.

Was hoping to rid Vazques instead.

John Danks, the ninth overall pick in the 2003 draft, will compete for the fifth spot in the White Sox rotation with newly acquired Gavin Floyd, Charlie Haeger, Lance Broadway and Heath Phillips.

The White Sox remain pessimistic about signing Joe Crede to a long-term deal. In two years, he could become a free agent.

I believe they did re-sign Cintron to a 1-year deal. He's a quality utility player.

The White Sox are grappling with what to do about right fielder Jermaine Dye. Dye has his eye on a contract approaching Carlos Lee's yearly salary ($17 million), if not the length of Lee's deal (six years). GM Ken Williams has had talks with Dye's agent, Bob Bry, about an extension before free agency but isn't sure

The White Sox announced Friday that they had traded catcher Chris Stewart to the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-handed pitcher John Lujan.

Lujan, 22, was originally drafted by the Rangers in the 15th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. He went 1-4 with a 5.74 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 38 relief appearances with Class A Bakersfield in 2006.

The White Sox have a few other catchers in their system who could provide depth, including Gustavo Molina, 24, and Francisco Hernandez, 20. Molina has been a favorite of the Sox pitching staff during his time with the club at Spring Training and hit .222 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 113 games during stints at Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham last season.

The team has done nothing in free agency. Next year they've got Buehrle/Dye as UFA and i'm guessing Buehrle gets a ton of jack thrown at him. Dye will get big money too but I think there is a better chance he'll stay. I would put money on Buehrle being a St. Louis Cardinal in '08 if something isn't done in-season.

I could see Buherle traded in July. I could see the Mets and Yanks in a war for him with a bunch of prospects on the table.

Chicago loves those "big trades" and moving Buherle in July could be wise.

I expect him to be much better than he was the 2nd half of last year where he was awful. He has pitched a ton of innings the last few years and I think he'll look more like the guy from '05 and the start of '06. Unless they're dead I don't think they're going to move him mid-season. From everything I have read it is Buehrle and Konerko's team and they control the clubhouse. He has mentioned more than once about pitching in St. Louis his hometown. Chicago can throw around money also so I don't think it's a stretch to say that he could be re-signed. Though I think they want to see what kind of year he has. If the team is a complete failure and the Indians finally play up to their potential I think he and Vazquez would be moved and they would put Danks/Floyd/Broadway in the rotation. One maybe in anyways or Haegar but I expect the team to still be very good because they're going to score a ton of runs. They won 90 games last year with bad pitching for the most part and were in the race untill the last 2 weeks of the year when they were playing terrible. The key to the Sox IMO, outside of the rotation will be Uribe/Podsednik/Anderson.

The White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $4.94 million contract with Joe Crede, avoiding arbitration. The 28-year-old third baseman won his first Silver Slugger Award and was named to The Sporting News American League All-Star Team in 2006.
