The Dolphins obviously believe they had a great day on Tuesday. They filled their inside linebacker coaching job and they made what seems like a widely popular hire of Mike Nolan as the new defensive coordinator.
Great job by them, it seems.

But work time is not over.

You see, I attended South Florida public schools and I know that if the Dolphins lost three assistants when the season ended and have hired two assistants since then, they are running a one assistant deficit. The Dolphins still apparently need to hire an outside linebacker coach.

I suppose it's possible Nolan can coach the outside linebackers as well as coordinator, but I don't see that happening. The carefully worded press release from the team -- no, this team doesn't do press conferences -- specified Nolan is the defensive coordinator, not the DC and outside linebacker coach.
And Sheridan's brief release called him the ILB coach.

So the coaching search must continue.

I totally agree with Armando on this one the Fins need to find a real good OLB coach, because the developement of Wake depends on it. Wake showed he can be a monster rushing the passer, but he need to learn how defend the run and must be able to cover.

So while Armando seems to have no clue who will it be, it makes me wonder if you guys know about any possible candidates for the position.

That is tough for one person to coach both inside and outside LB's and parcells likes to have 2 different coaches

This definitely fills in some blanks and goes far in explaining a lot about Mando!!!

In consideration of this new information, I shall resolve to be less judgmental about him.

Must be a slow news day.....

You mean we should look at hiring a guy at a coaching position we have vacant... HOLY ****!

We should try to win more games next year than we did this year too.

Why not just have Sheridan coach both sets of LBs?
With linebackers in the 3-4 being so important to a defense, it isn't a bad idea to have two coaches for each set.

Sheridan was named Inside Linebackers coach, so it is very obvious that they intend to hire a Outside Linebackers coach.

I wouldn't be surprised if they hire a college DC or a head coach from a small college to take the position. Both Reid and Rizzi were college head coaches before they came to Miami as assistants.

pepper johnson anybody

Some of you are overlooking the most important position on oour defense. Especially when the development of Wake depends on us getting to the QB. Miami needs an OLB coach that is gonna make a difference, because if not Nolan blitzing defense will not work.

Guys, in a 3-4, the OLBs and ILBs use totally different skills. No way one man could coach both groups... It would be like the TEs coach also coaching the WRs.

I wonder if they are closing in on an OLB coach. I would think they would have one in place before Senior Bowl practices on Monday.
