The Cold truth on how our offseason will go the remainder of the way

SO IF THE FINs DOING ANYTHING YOU SAY THEY WONT YOU WONT POST HERE ANYMORE????

YOUR GOING TO BE WRONG WITH AT LEAST ONE OF YOUR IDEAS SO WHAT YOU GOING TO DO????

Why won't we trade down? Considering the bonus and salary a #2 pick would command that goes somewhat against your reasoning. I'm not saying we won't pick at the second spot but you don't back it up, you merely assert it. I could see us trading down for extra (read more affordable) picks and grabbing a rb not named benson, williams or brown. In fact, since people like making the Bill comparisons, how long did he run a successful team without an elite back?

We won't trade down cause no one will want to trade with us. We would if we could for sure.

I wouldn't be so sure. I would not be surprised to see one of the things you say "won't happen" happen. I don't know which. Just a feeling.

people, it's common sense. no money.... no players.

I agree with most of your post, except the possibility of trading Surtain for another player. If we really wanted to keep Surtain, we could find a way to restructure his deal to his liking and make it under the cap. However, most of us, including Saban, will agree that Surtain isn't worth that kind of money.

So if a deal was made for Alexander/Surtain, we could find a way to give Alexander a good contract and still be under the cap. That's what management gets paid for. Alexander would be worth the money, whereas an older Surtain is not.

Now, I don't believe that the Alexander/Surtain trade will happen. But your pessimism only outweighs mine, if Saban wanted Alexander instead of Ronnie Brown (which is realistic) we could find a way to get it done.

I agree w/everything you said. We need to shed the 'almost there' mentality and think more long term. We've been mortgaging the future with the 'almost there' mentality for years, our draft record is a disaster. The fact of the matter is we are a 4-12 team. One or two players ain't gonna fix things. It's time to rebuild not reload. With superior coaching it shouldn't be that long of a journey.

Im gonna agree with everything InMyChambers said....

Although, i think Surtain is traded no matter what, we need the relief and its either trade him NOW, or get no compensation when he walks free next year. I would take a 3rd for him come draft day if we havent traded him yet.

The ONLY way we sign Sharper is if he takes a paycut to come here.... some teams gonna offer him a higher contract and overpay for him.

People need to chill out and realize our offseason will not be hard to predict the rest of the way and it will go like this:

-We will NOT trade for E James
-We will NOT trade for S Alexander
-We will NOT trade for D Darius
-We will NOT resign D Boston
-We will NOT sign P Burress
-We will NOT sign D Sharper
-We may or may not trade P Surtain, but if we do it will be for a draft pick - no better than a 2nd. We will NOT receive a player in return.
-We will draft a RB with the #2 pick. We will 99% sure NOT trade down for additional picks.

Thanks for the update coach Saban. I'm glad you finally came out and gave us fans some news about the future. :roflmao: :roflmao:

Come on man, get real  . You know nothing more than the rest of us....

PS. I say we WILL TRADE for either Alexander / James. :D ....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I disagree. As of now we are not "close" to making the superbowl. So why would you invest in a player who is currently 4 or 5 years into the league and in their prime when together the team isn't ready for the next level? You trade for established stars when you are close and need that final piece to push you over the hump. (See TO to the Eagles last year.) You don't trade for high priced talent in the prime of their career when you are rebuilding. Because by the time the team finally gets to that next level, chances are that star you traded for will be in the decline of his career. When you are rebuilding you build thru the draft so the team can develop and learn together.

Yes, I dont understand the point the thread starter is trying to make... Even if everything he says is correct, I'd say we would still have a damn good offseason drafting Brown... I happen to think Boston might be back in a restructured contract tho... JMO

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that one of these predictions will not come to pass.

:shakeno: I can't say I don't envy your optimism but it's not reality. I think people think too much with their heart and not with their heads.
