One of things that worries me is the fact when Philbin is replaced(and chances are he will be), what will then be done with Bill Lazor? Continuity is key here IMO. If you remove Bill Lazor as well, the offense will then have to start over and this will most likely hinder Ryan Tanny's progress and then the board will bombard the forum with more opinions on how #17 isnt the answer. I know the word REBUILD gets tossed a lot around here but I think keeping Lazor needs to be a priority. Unless the franchise gives up on #17 then it would make sense to start all over with a new offense. I think Tannehill is in a lose lose situation. New coach new system? The continuity of the offense........its important.

I dont care one bit of the affect of the departure of philbin. Its not like Lazor has been that awesome and that a good coach could not choose a good oc.
Stupid reason to keep philbin

Whatever happens, T-hill is a very smart kid. Evident by how quickly he began to pick up the offense this year by week 4, in which is generally assumed to be at least an 8 week process. Would be a set back? Of course, but only a slight one if it means getting this organization on track.

You fire a head coach, you got 3 year lease on the next coach to reshape the players (including QB) and staff as he sees fit. Doesn't matter about continuity, Tannehill will either produce for the new coach or find another place (like Henne).

I guess once caveat would be keeping or giving power to Hickey to pick the coach. Then you gotta have a coach that's willing to work with Hickey and acquiesce to his suggestions for staff and players.

If Lazor comes back I want to see tempo or I don't want him back...that system he runs screams tempo...without it the tendencies are easy to sit on

As for the qb continuity is important but anything that gets back to developing pocket play and away from read option I'm down for...and I think working more from center and 3 5 and 7 step drops wouldn't be much of a transition in a new o

That's where I'm torn. I new a new coach would bring in his own and I don't want to lose lazor either. Switching the offense up is bad news at this point. We just need more play makers and a better line. I would like to see some smash mouth game incorporated in our offense though. I'm sick of this finesse ****

gotta love lets keep a crappy coach to keep our OC lol

I think its pretty evident that the OC is handcuffed by Philbin anyway... I mean Lazor and Sherman are polar opposites when it comes to offensive scheme and both used a somewhat balanced offense in their stints elsewhere, and somehow they got here and went pass heavy....

I tried to side with excuses of player limitations and injuries as to why we did not run a HUNH and force tempo this year but that only enforces more of a reason to do so. I'd like to hear the thought process of the coaches as to why we did not but I doubt that's a possibility.

I believe that as well. Lazor was given the power to playcall but possibly because Philbin doesn't have a clue since he has never held that responsibility. And I think that Lazor has to follow Philbin's game planning which is holding back the HUNH and the cause of the disproportionate run/pass ratio.

Whoa whoa whoa. This post isn't about keeping Philbin. I want him gone more then anyone else. This thread is basically about the new head coach wanting to start over on offense. And I'm simply saying that it will most likely make Tannehill take a step back and not progress. Not sure how some of you(Dlockz) think I want to keep Philbin. Its more so Lazor. Do we keep him? Or let him go?

Let the new coach make that decision. Im confortable with that

Tannehill has not taken a step back from the previous year ever since he entered the league, remember Legadu? then 58 sacks? New offense and still rolling...? Dont worry about Tannehill... Nobody from FH is getting the job...

IMO, this offense makes Tannehill considerably more dangerous than he would be in a standard set. Defenders were flatfooted and confused all the time. It often stunned me when I watched the game a second time.

If you ask Tannehill to drop back and pick a target without motion influence, and without forcing the defense to cover the full width of the field with crossers, then his flat trajectory becomes more of an issue. More balls will be batted down and he'll have to force throws into coverage instead of so many wide open targets.

I agree that Lazor didn't use tempo nearly enough. Particularly on running plays. Tempo doesn't really help you on passes. I've seen the stats broken down on that. Lazor also got away from trips formations and other creative stuff once Albert was injured and we became scared of our offensive line.

Given another year I'm certain Lazor would emphasize downfield throws to far greater regularity. We also need to mix more snaps from under center. The lazy abuse of the shotgun made us a less physical offense, just like the decision to go with small upfield defensive tackles made the eventual frailty on defense very predictable. Many of us posted that we'd miss Paul Soliai.

What really pisses MadDog off is when they go uptempo they move the ball efficiently.
