The Curious Case of Lydon Murtha

Yes because reports of him stonewalling All-Pro Cam Wake and Veteran Pass Rusher JT must mean he sucks right? That makes sense.......

the "{insert name} sucks" posts really are the biggest waste of space on this site

Oh, I get it. "Reports" of Murtha killing it in practice makes up for him getting beaten like rented mule during EVERY game he appeared in. He DID SUCK last year. Lets see what this piece of crap does when it is not practice.

Yea calling players on the team you "root" for "pieces of crap" is real mature, have you ever met him? broke down and studied film on him? seen him play up close in person? probably NOT

Key words in your post "last year"...... Paul Solia "sucked" coming into last year as well right, the NFL is about learning and making progress and adapting, the earlier reports say he is doing all of those, so instead of giving the guy credit for trying to make himself and the team you "root" for better your gona bash him call him a "piece of crap" and say he sucks......

Please think before you post

I thought he did a good job at RT last season.

Lydon Murtha was awful last year. So bad the Lions cut his ***.

If he could develop into a starting quality Left Tackle; that's a helluva trading chip easily worth 2 1st round picks.

Nice move by Ireland.

It never gets old when after a handful of practices we're ready to
send "INSERT PLAYERS NAME HERE" to Canton

The last two years at Nebraska Murtha did start every game, at Right tackle. One thing he can do ? Roadgrade. For those saying he can't its evident you do not know what is going on. He played LT in a few games prior to his last two seasons at Nebraska but that was due to injuries. I have been as critical with Murtha as everyone else but if he is doing good, great. If he progresses, then he will surely be our starting RT once Jake comes back and Columbo or someone else will be the back up OT on game day. Wish the big guy Murtha best of luck, evidently yes, the light has come on for the young man.

As I posted prior to this. Up until this point in time Murtha has gotten by on his God Given athletic talents handed to him. He really did nothing much to make himself better. Apparently that has changed and as some have said, maybe, just maybe, all he needed was a chance and its now been handed to him. Its unreal how some clowns can knock a kid because he is doing good ?? Unreal. I honestly wonder who the real fans are here.

2 1st rounders for Murtha....now that is a jump.

Make sure he makes the team first, then start and then play a complete game.

Murtha looks a lot bigger then 315 in photos. He looks like he's 330 at least. The man looks enormous and his arms look massive.

Yep, as I said, wish the kid the best of luck but thats been the anchor around his leg. Heck, his first week at practice in Nebraska he injured himself on a blocking aparatus that was standing still minding its own business.

Ok, so whydid he suck so bad last year. And I don't only mean suck, but SUCK

He looked big and strong last year, but extremely slow. He seemed to get beat regularly then.

People do develope and get their mind right. The speed of the NFL is a surprise to any rookie. It was the biggest worry we had with Jake. Could he handle the speed rushers.

When we picked Murtha up, I remember how very similar in stature he looked to Long. I remember saying that if we just could get him to resemble jake in the talent dept. then we stole another one.

I will be paying attention to Murtha on Saturday.

It's very interesting...

Murtha is an athletic "freak" for an offensive lineman in terms of the way he tests and his movement skills... but as the link pointed out, his play never matched his physical talent... if it did, he would've been a top 10 pick..

Offensive tackles with the specs of Murtha get drafted in the 1st round every year, even when their play doesn't match their specs... because of upside.

Players can develope people... they mature, develope a work ethic, and suddenly something will "click" inside their head in terms of what they're supposed to be doing...

What makes it interesting to me is that Murtha's freakish movement skills and athletic ability fits what the new blocking scheme is going to require. Carey wouldn't be able to get it done at right tackle on stretch plays that require zone blocking... and elements of the ZBS are becoming increasingly more necessary to off-set the influx of 3-4, and multiple set defenses that are being installed everywhere you look now...

You want to be able to get push from your interior offensive lineman in short yardage situations... but you want to create creases and cutback lanes through the "B" and "C" gaps with mobile, athletic offensive lineman... it's the way the running game works nowdays.
