The curse of the first round pick...

Very good read and I couldn't agree more. I always thought that if a team had top 10 pick it was more of a problem than actually being beneficial.....unless there is that extremely "special" player that make the pick worth while. Let's face it, giving up 15m in guaranteed $ to a unprooven rookie that hasn't even put one foot on the NFL football is completly ludicrist.

Does anyone actually think giving up 18m in guaranteed $ to Brown is reasonable? Probably not. Buffalo is in the same position w/their RT Williams. Because of him being picked 4th, he is getting paid 9m this year. That's Orlando Pace money. With the ramifications of the salary cap these days it's a complete joke.

There has been talk that this issue will be addressed and corrected in the next CBA.

That article speaks about getting the most value out of any draft pick you choose, through playing time. That was my number one reason for wanting to draft Ronnie Brown. There was nothing more important than getting instant production from that pick.

That's a good article it has a lot of good stuff in there and confirms some other things that people on this board thought.

You don't get to choose not to spend it though. I think Ronnie was the best choice given that it had to be made. With his overall development, he was the one that was closest to a sure thing to be starting on opening day.

Thanks for the link. Good info.

It puts things into perspective.
The fans just focus on the player drafted and the hype.....ignoring or minimizing the importance of the COST of that player, and it's affects on the team's ability to pay good players at other positions.
