"The cut scene" -- Chad talks with Philbin.

I agree. Philbin needs to go to executive coaching. These are things that can be changed. I think Philbin's core principles are right on ... it's just presentation.

Rules of engagement when firing/cutting someone:

Be direct, firm, and to the point.

Philben was NONE of those things and it concerns me that he can't have tough conversations.

maybe we should send mike sherman in...

even though never been a fan of chad I feel somewhat bad for him, he did work hard with us this offseason and had won the respect of alot of his teammates, I just think philben was not ready for all that chad brings and chad was right he had never been in trouble his whole career in the nfl. It was painful to watch and justa really bad week for Chad.

I don't know what you guys are expecting from Philbin. I mean, he didn't even have to meet with Chad in the first place. The entire conversations lasted a few minutes, how much more direct do want the man to be? "Hi Chad, hey listen man I had you come all the way down here to tell you to GTFO. kthxbye."

He sat down and gave his reasons and shook the guy's hand and told him straight. You don't have to be a cold prick about it. He was honorable enough to meet with the player one-to-one, like he probably will with everyone they cut, even though it's not his obligation.

Exactly. Philbin does not need to meet with anyone when releasing them. I'm pretty sure he's not going to be meeting with the next 20 or so cuts that are incoming.

Not to mention it is awkward to do when you have a camera right over your shoulder. You don't want to embarrass the guy, and you don't want to look like you're doing something for TV either.

It probably was his first firing and it showed - not proud to say but I have fired a lot of employees and coach didn't take the best path - he cut Chad off when he was talking and over sold it. There were a few times where it could have ended but he kept talking - probably nerves but doesn't mean it couldn't have been better.

If there was a chance he wasn't going to get cut, it didn't seem like Chad cared - he walked in there in slippers but Chad is probably destroyed mentally right now and not thinking straight but then again when does he

Disappointing bc I thought he was going to rebound from last year and thoroughy enjoy his opportunity to play for his favorite team.

In 7/11 we trust!

Philbin is worried about innovating practice and turning this team around. Im sure the best way to cut a guy is low on his list of priorities.

I do feel bad for Chad, in the sense that I'm human and here is a guy that wrecked his life in a matter of a couple days. He lost his job, they cancelled a show he was in, resulting in who knows how much lost income. Then his wife files for divorce. That's a tough week for anyone. Chad seemed genuinely enthusiastic about playing for the Dolphins, too. I just hope he was smart enough to handle the money he's made over his career and isn't the next T.O.

Why? That idiot did it to him self.

I've got no problem with the way he handled it. He was so on point he didn't even want to hear what Chad had to say, he was tapping his fingers because it was keeping from the task at hand. I don't think he ever liked 85 for the same reasons he didn't want BM on the team and he will roll with his no-name receivers.

We have a bunch of psuedo-psychiatrists on this forum.

Philbin is doing fine.

Here is a guy who watched Moneyball, and now thinks he knows better than a guy who's been around college and pro football for 30 years.

I agree. I disliked Chad Johnson as a person before he got arrested. I posted as such in this forum.

but I can't help but feel bad for this guy. I hope everything works out for him

Is Chad Johnson on the team any longer? No? Then it seems to me Philbin handled it fine.

You could tell Chad was crushed.

It is after all his childhood team.

Yeah, I felt bad for him ... almost felt like defending the guy. But emotions aside... he put himself there. He's a grown man, why is he still trying to be the center of attention with a tirade of profanity and pornography references in a press conference as a representative of the organization? Children do watch this stuff, you know. Even as an adult, I find it in poor taste.

He has to grow up.
