Here's a video I came across randomly just looking for footage on our new corners. This one is before the draft, but it shows some good clips on Vontae. And man, I really respect Vernon now. I'm almost certain that if it weren't for Vernon pushing Vontae to be a better athlete ( waking him up at 5 am to go run bleachers ) that Vontae wouldn't be in the NFL now.

it always good to have a friend or family in the same thing as u. Both r in the nfl and may be on opposing teams, but they can still give good advice. Good or not his brother can be a plus.

I think to much has been made about Vernon Davis' character. The only issue I recall that stands out was getting sent off the field by Singletary. Singletary made the right decision but Vernon is very passionate about what he does and this is an example. I certainly hope the naysayers who question Vontae's character, particularily those who base it on brother Vernon, keep in mind his desire to excel and often times that desire comes out in an emotional display.

And plus, it's remarkable that both Vernon and Vontae developed in the people they are now. Their grandma had a lot to do with it, but they were surrounded by a run down, thuggish environment where at any moment someone could get shot or robbed. They had to separate themselves from all that and pretty much everything they knew as a kid, to get on the right path and have a future in football. To me it's a blessing that we could get such a deserving person to be on our team. Vontae seems like great dude, and I don't see him having any behavior issues with us anytime soon.

Here's a video on how life was at home for them. It's centered around Vernon, but of course Vontae went through all the same stuff.

I was watching NFL network and they were discussing Vernon and why he doesn't seem to see the ball as much as we would think he would. The announcers said there were stories from training camp, past and present, where Vernon didn't know the playbook very well and was consistently NOT on the same page as the QB's. They said basically the QB's didn't trust him to be in the right place at the right time, and he often ran the wrong routes.

Personally I think he should split carries with Gore, Vernon would just be scary at runningback

I agree, that much speed and strength? He could be a full back!

Forget fullback... he could potentially be a sick halfback... like a brandon jacobs type... but with more speed. Jacobs is probably a little stronger but Vernon is very very strong and a freak of an athlete... I wish they would do something more than just put him at tight end... I feel like its wasting some of his talent.

I believe it'll happen at some point, he's just not getting anywhere at TE!

And plus, the dude squats 685, well, probably much more now actually. No one's making him fall backwards.

By the way, does anyone know Vontae's numbers, besides his 40 time?

Yea I am a huge Vernon fan... I just wanna see him do well at any position... he deserves it...

But here is Vontae's combine results:

Bench Press: 25 reps (top corner)
Vertical Jump: 36 inches
Broad Jump: 10'5"
3 Cone: 6.75
20 yard shuttle: 4.07

can't find squat and clean info

Thanks! Man, he's crazy. Sometimes I wonder how he'd be if he had to play safety for us and he bulked up to 220 or so.. he'd be a FREEEEEAK.

Ahh, I don't know if anyone could top those hits, but maybe somewhere close

And if Vernon were a safety, I would probably switch to defense, seriously. It'd just be unfair!

This sounds more like a coaching adjustment then a character issue. Some coaches and players don't work well together, maybe he just needs a change of scenery.
