summarized in this quaint little article about a single statement from NS.

Since Saban arrived I've been waiting to see one thing...how he would respond following a performance that was anything short of superb. During the DW era we grew accustomed to hearing the party line after every single display of mediocrity....you know..."from a team standpoint we had great effort and we were just a few lucky bounces away from winning that game...overall you have to be happy with what you saw seeing as it was our first preseason game and all...they'll come around, don't worry"...:shakeno: :fire:

Well not anymore folks. Saban summarized his attitude by stating, quite simply, that he's pissed off they lost...there's no freakin excuse for the loss...he doesn't care if he had a peewee league team out there he expects them to execute and bear down to win in crunch time. Now THAT'S what I've been longing to hear for the past 4 years. I feel much better hearing such conviction for winning and excellence.

Thoughts?

:hail: Saban

This is what i have been waiting for. Also I love how he calls out people for messing up. Like chewing out Manny Wright in prctice and when we messed up in the game, and the camera panned over to him you saw him yelling.. Not trying to pull out his hair!

You're right about that...he doesn't seem to want to be their best friend....instead their leader...their motivator. An attribute DW sorely lacked.

The difference is about 130 IQ points in Saban's favour.

The difference in Saban vs. Wanny is...

Look...until we get into the season and start chalking up W's and L's...this is all we have...hope...and the brightest shimmer of hope for this team right now IS the difference in coaching philosophy

Wanny has crippled this franchise for years on the field and off of it. These wounds take a long time to heal.

uh huh, turn your negativity towards the coach that almost won us 50 games or so into a positive. right.

Look i don't like wanny either, but Hes coaching Pitt now, and i just can't stand seeing his name get put into another thread EVERYDAY.

I'm not so much dwelling on DW's negatives as much as I'm celebrating what I perceive to be Saban's positives...and if my point is further enhanced by contrasting to DW...well then so be it.

Ouch! that should hurt the Wanny fans left behind.

If Saban really wanted to win that game, he shouldn't have Mare attempt that FG.

It was a glorified scrimmage.

That's where we disagree...if you're going to loose, go down fighting...go for it when you have a chance...the philosophy of "punting is ok" irks the heck out of me...you can't instill a winning philosophy can't be achieved through a conservative/passive approach...show me a person who doesn't take risks and I'll show you a an underachiever...nobody who ever achieved anything great took risks...it's the only way to succeed...I don't fear failure...I fear not even trying to succeed!

54 yards? I'm almost sure he wouldn't have Mare attempt that w/ the game on the line in a regular season game.

He needed Mare to attempt that so he could get a feel of what Mare can do being the new HC of the fins. Preseason games are meant to a$$ess players. Under Marv Levy the bills had horrible preseason record.
