The DNA of a moment...

Great observation. From my perspective, Hartline was trying to be cool. He's a white guy who plays a black position and is trying to fit in. Fine, whatever. The important thing is that he cost us 15 yards for being stupid. Added to this, Philbin has the unenviable task of trying to maintain order and discipline while simultaneously "lightening up". A hard dichotomy to navigate. Bottom line: follow the rats, this ship's sinking.

You should have finished the racism thing full circle by saying "white guy, playing a black position, trying to fit in...by showing his skills in the whitest sport possible (golf)"

I'm convinced Hartline would have done it regardless of the score or situation. That's the troubling aspect. It was practiced and a priority. The teammates raced to the spot without need to be summoned.

I've emphasized many times that the '70s Dolphins had a collective smarts and determination that hasn't been threatened recently. The early to mid '80s teams also were prideful. I don't want to slight them. They had other deficits. But in this era we have too many dunces or guys who seem willing to go through the motions and collect checks.

Actually there was one aspect of that touchdown that amazed me more than anything else during the game. Does anyone realize how difficult it was for Hartline to maintain his footing after the catch? You can see he briefly leaned forward and wanted to tumble as always, until sensing there was nobody near him, nobody who was going to touch him, and how ridiculous it would look if he managed another pratfall.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Hartline the only one that does any real celebration when he scores (as far as a dance or that golf thing)...maybe because it is such a rare thing he can't help himself...

Not sure about the answer. Can't remember the last time Hartline actually scored!

as far as i understand the rules, it wasnt Hartline's actions that garnered us the penalty, but rather the others on the team that "participated" in an orchestrated celebration. i havent gone back and rewatched who exactly ran to the spot and joined in, but those are the ones who should be getting thrown under the bus. Hartline's putting celebration alone would not have been penalized minus the lack of awareness from his teammates. that being said, Hartline needs to grow up, he's been in the league longer than the majority of players on our roster, and at this point should be more concerned about the team's success than personal accomplishment

Bottom line is that the offense failed to score after that rehearsed skit. Maybe they should concentrate on finishing the game instead of these silly photo ops
