Noteworthy: The Dolphins activated rookie Chris Van Hoy, a former Louisiana Tech nose guard, to the practice squad. Defensive tackle Tim McGill was released to make room for him.

Don't know alot about him. Is a big guy, about 6'4" 314 lbs. Evidently played NT as Louisiana Tech for a while in a 3-4 scheme, but Tech has a pretty bad defense.

Josh Shaw and now this? Saban working the DT spot with pickups and Manny Wright. This is where we will make huge strides in the offseason.

Don't read TOO much into these kinds of moves. Saban said early on that they'd be continuously churning the bottom of the roster.

I think they know what they've got in McGill, which probably isn't a heckuva lot, and know they can pick him up whenever they need him.

That said, keep in mind the fact that the Phins released Shaw, who played very well in preseason, in favor of McGill. However, this time around, the Dolphins could have promoted McGill to the active roster and released Shaw. But Shaw kept his job. I would tend to think that Shaw has shown a little something lately.

There's always the possibility though that McGill did something to piss off the staff and got kicked out, rendering the rest of my post invalid. :)
