The Dolphins' potential cap casualties in 2012

Restructuring is your first move....

J.Long
K.Dansby
B.Marshall

Next, it's still asking the following to restructure but if they refuse then their cut....

A.Fasano
Y.Bell
T.McDaniel

Resign...

All our restricted FA's
K.Langford

If we're going 43 then I'd sign MLB L.Fletcher on the cheap to compete and teach our mid-round MLB draft pick.

I think Incognito and Fasano are more likely to be cut due to salary issues than Garner. The only way I see Garner going is if we acquire someone who outperforms him in TC.

garner is solid depth on the interior and right tackle in a pinch...he's signed for peanuts...cutting him with whats on the roster right now is just dumb...you don't cut your versatility when its that darn cheap...

Great post, I agree with alot of what your saying and it will be interesting to see what direction this team goes in. I think Jason Campbell should get a good look to be the dolphins next franchise QB

If they switch to a 4-3 then Soliai and Langford may both be gone.

lol these threads are great. just b/c fans dont value certain players doesnt mean the FO thinks the same way, or is as niave as fans to think every starter is just easily replaceable b/c they are not pro-bowlers. incognito and fasano? garner? yeah OK!

bell is the only one id say is possible b/c he is getting up there in age and has lost a step. generally teams dont have 4-5 cap casualties fellas, its 1.

by far this will be the most interesting off season in fins history, i could see us landing 2 or 3 major contributors, we are goin to have a hell of a draft, whoever falls to us at 8 or 9 will be an immediate impact, but all the veterans have to do there part an restructure there deals, and i could see bell and fasano getting cut, especially if we are going to draft a te

I love how people throw out the word "restructure" like its something easy. Its a euphimism for "hey buddy... we are cutting your salary". And it usually doesn't go over very well. When you decide to make Brandon Marshall and Karlos Dansby your BIG FA splash and throw all this money at them, you dont get to then say 2 years later... "remember all that money we gave you to lure you here?... yeah take a paycut now".

doesn't work like that. and shouldn't be viewed as a viable or likely option. that money isn't getting slashed.

Cutting McDaniel and resigning Langford would be a good move. Probably not the most populart, but with Starks in the final year of his contract, it would be a good move.

pay cut is not always what restructure means...not by a long shot

you obviously do not understand how the salary cap works...

some of the money will go to draft picks too guys.....can't use it all to get free agents and keep on mind that every player we let go to make room under the cap has to be replace too so don't go too crazy thinking we're going to get a bunch of players in free agency....we still need a full roster.

Ozzy rules!!

Depends what you count as a cap casualty. Teams aren't generally going to free agency with a new coach looking for a franchise QB. If we get Flynn, he'll command about 7-10M in cap hit. That's basically our entire cap space. A healthy Manning would command even more. Soliai would have to walk.

If we do something like sign Finley, Fasano would be getting top 10 TE money to be #2 on the depth chart.

Bell's performance is not matching his cap hit. He was the 8th most expensive safety last year. I wouldn't be surprised if we upgrade in ability or bring in someone cheaper/younger here.

Then there's the draft. We have a 9th overall that's going to cost 5M/year minimum.

rookie 5M + FranchiseQB 10M + some other semi big splash off season move +5M and we're at 20M.

These are all reasonable offseason moves. I really didn't go out on a limb with any of these.
