I love the constant optimism on this forum... it's so foolish, but it is endearing...
We're a 6-7 win team, 8-9 wins if everything falls our way... people always look at their own team and justify their everlasting optimism with showing how their own team improved... unaffected by the fact that everyone else improved too, and most of the time, in more effective and efficient ways. We're not horrible, but we're not a playoff team, and it's not even close.
Not only does this team lack talent and depth (especially on defense), but we lack something even more important... consistent and solid COACHING. All our best defensive coaches have left and our offense is so void of talented coaching that our HC insists on calling the offense.
Football, more than any other sport, is effected by coaching and personnel/front office people.... something this team has lacked for a long time. It's going to be another up and down year.

Father time catches up to Brady (been saying this for 5 years) and Josh Allen doesn't blow up.
So we won six games last year w/ jay cutler
This year we add Minkah Fitzpatrick to our defense..
And we get our qb, Ryan Tannehill back.
Also, we add josh Sitton and replace Bushrod w/ Jesse Davis.
Everything else minus Jarvis landry and suh , is a constant or upgrade.
Despite all that, you think we are a 6-7 win team.

This team has its question marks.. but look at last years roster and compare it to this year.

Amazing! You responded exactly as I said the eternal optimists do... everyone goes "well this is how we improved" even though in my post that you quote I stated the problem with this thought process is EVERY SINGLE OTHER TEAM THINKS THEY IMPROVED too.
Don't you think every team goes into the offseason with the intention to improve? You think the Dolphins are the only ambitious organization the NFL? It's not about if we got better, it's about did we get better relative to every other team in the NFL. We were a 6 win team last season, we could be 8-9 wins if everything goes well... maybe you missed me saying that part. If I'm betting, I'm betting we win 7-8.
**** man, I even mention that even more important than roster improvement is front office and coaching and you completely just ignore that? I don't want to sit here and rip your post apart... but, well, just remember this exchange when the season is over.
ps: you know how desperately bad your team must be to list Jesse Davis over Bushrod as one of your notable reasons of upgrade? I liked what I saw from Davis last year too... but man, that's all we got? lol

Every team has Debbie Downers, I'll quote from another team's message board after game 3 of the preseason. I have X'ed out the names so you can try and guess who they are talking about.
The #1 thing I learned is that, other than XXX, the entire offseason has yielded almost no return. The veterans who were added to replace free agency losses/traded guys all seem to be washing out or contributing next to nothing (XXX, XXX, XXX, XXX) and the draft has given the team an interesting XX prospect (XXX) and nothing else. A full fairly busy offseason and draft - including a draft where they went in with a number of high picks - and the team is clearly worse off in talent across the board. XXX might help but he's a pretty marginal player. XXX hasn't looked especially noteworthy. XXX looks like a lateral move from XXX. The rest of the draft/free agency didn't address the holes from last year or the new holes opened up during the offseason. The WR group, interior pass rush, DL depth, cover LB, #4 S and #2 CB positions look as bad or worse than they did last year.
I would read this and clearly know this team sucks.

That's the problem with the mentality around here. You're saying that NE's WR's "suck" and bills and jets have "rookie QB's"
In other words, we can win the east IF the other 3 teams suck. The problem is that we think we can win if the other team is bad or if they're missing players and on and on instead of we can win if we become much better than we've been. As long as we're hoping for Brady to retired and other teams to suck we will never be great.
