I'm watching nfl networks an NFL life and they are showing the Houston Oilers of 93. Very interesting show and I didn't know that much about what happened during that time. I knew of the players and talent but then again I was only 9 years old during that time and was just starting to watch nfl football. It just makes me wonder as we all know how the Cowboys ruled the early 90s and their dynasty during this time. I know the Bills are very talented with pro bowlers, but it makes me wonder if the Bills just didn't match up right against Cowboys and they got their butts kicked. I don't think the Oilers would have won, but they might've have been more competitive against the Cowboys. The 90s Oilers were a very talented group as well. The names not as known, but Ernest Givens, Haywood Jeffries, these guys were pro bowl WRs, Warren Moon a hall of fame qb, and while they didn't have thurman thomas or emmitt smith, they had a pretty good run game with Gary Brown and Lorenzo White. I think coaching and structure is so important for teams, as leadership and cohesion is important as well as chemistry. You see that with the Patriots and the great teams, they knew how to work things out with the various personalities and a lot of that is from the coaches. Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh, Belichick knew how to get the team together. The oilers staff not only couldn't get things together. Buddy ryan, while a good mind for defense, instigated fights and dynfunction from the defense against the offense and against Gilbride. It's not surprise the team lacked mental toughness and for a collapes to happen like it did against the Bills in the playoffs in the biggest comeback in nfl history I believe. Sometimes the AFC or NFC champion to go to the superbowl isn't always the best challenger to the other super bowl contender. For example the Vikings of 98 with Cunningham, Moss, Carter and Robert Smith, that missed kick and upset loss, that I felt Vikings blew. Sure Falcons did beat them, but as we saw, they were no match talent wise for the Broncos and got crushed. I think had the Vikings won, with their talent, they would've definitely been much better competition for Broncos and perhaps beat them. I think the Broncos were happy that the Vikings lost too. Just wondering about thoughts on coaching, I think ruining the potential of a talented team.
