The Elite franchises in all of sports: Agree?

Would these be the top dogs in each league? THE ELITE?

NFL: Dallas Cowboys

MLB: New York Yankees

NBA: LA Lakers / Boston Celtics (Tie)

NHL: Montreal Canadiens

College Basketball: Duke / UCLA (Tie)

College Football: Notre Dame

College Baseball: University of Miami

Agree with all except CBB. I think there are a few more to add. NC, Kentucky, and Indiana. I don't think you can make an arguement to keep those 3 out.

I'd agree w/ that as hard as it is to put the Cowboys as elite.

As much as I'd like to keep UM as the top college baseball program, they aren't. Before Jim Morris, they were nothing. USC has won the most championships and has had a lot of Golden Spikes winners. I'd have to go with them.

This must be all-time elite because UCLA hasn't had a basketball team since 95'. Best 2 teams in college basketball the last 10 years have been Duke and Uconn..

I agree. If we're talking about all-time teams, you're probably right with those, 126. (Although Michigan and USC would have a strong argument for college football; I think both schools have more national titles than ND) But if we're talking about the last 10 or 20 years, the list is different. For example, Miami is clearly the pre-eminent college football program of the last 25 years; no one else is even close to their 5 national titles (83, 87, 89, 91, 01).

Also, I know nothing about college baseball so I'll defer judgment on that one.

The NFL is kinda eh... The Packers could replace Dallas, IMO as could the 49ers.

Duke is not college basketball elite. It's UCLA with Kentucky a close second.

The NFL is a tough one. Dallas isn't a bad choice. But Pittsburgh could be there as well.

Bite your tongue....

Ever hear of a guy called Ron Fraser?

He is only the winningest coach in college baseball history.....

Over his thirty year career, he had an overall record of 1,271-438-9. The Hurricanes also made twenty straight playoff appearances under Fraser.

He also won National Championships in 1982 and 1985.

Tongue bitten. But USC still sets the standards for championships, so they've gotta be #1.

Agreed...but USC has 21 CWS appearances........while UM has 21 CWS appearances.

USC had a MASSIVE recruiting edge till the 1960's when the Hurricanes finally brought in Ron Fraser and the CWS went to an open format...since then USC has 9 championships with six coming in the 70's as they dominated College Baseball. UM has 4.

Problem with USC is that they then become non existant (post season play) for 20 years from 1978 ....till they win in 1998.

So yeah...i would agree that USC by virtue of their 12 total championships....9 REAL (CWS format) championships....deserve to be #1...

The Canes are not too shabby though.

No argument. I went to a bunch of games at the Light in 1999-2001, when they had the starstudded teams that always went to the championship game. Good fun...I was actually there for Jim Morris' 1,000th win, although no one in the stands seemed to know until they announced it afterwards.

NFL - Dallas Cowboys/ Green Bay Packers

MLB - New York Yankees

NBA - Lakers/Celtics

NHL - ???????Don't watch it

College Basketball - Kentucky/North Carolina

College Football - Michigan/Notre Dame/Alabama

College Baseball - ??? Maybe Southern Cal

I would put Green Bay ahead of Dallas as far as all-time greatest NFL franchise....even though the Packers are far from what they were, they were so dominate in the 1960's and they also returned to the top for a while under Favre....The Cowboys were great in the 70's and 90's but have kind of fallen off as of late....Pittsburgh I think would be up there with Dallas as maybe the 2nd/3rd best NFL franchise ever.....I would then put the 49ers in 4th, despite the fact they have had some horrible decades, and I would put Miami at #5 all-time because of their back to back SB's in the 1970's (the 17-0 season) and their overall all-time record. The Raiders maybe at #6?

College Basketball: UCLA (totally dominated for years...Duke isn't even close).
NHL: Montreal Canadians
MLB: NY Yankees
College Football: Notre Dame (Sports Illustrated has them #1 too).
NBA: Boston Celtics....Lakers 2nd....Celtics have sucked since 1986 though.

NFL: DALLAS COWBOYS
NBA: LAKERS
MLB: YANKEES
NHL: DETRIOT or CANADIANS not sure about this one
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOTRE DAME
COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UCLA

This was a poll ESPN did
