The end of chad henne?

I'd resign him to a 2 year deal, and try to trade him. If I couldn't get a 3rd rounder for him, I keep him.

It makes no sense to let him go for nothing now unless he just doesn't want to be in Miami any longer.

He's a tough kid and a capable backup caliber quarterback.

Quarterbacks who can at least play a little bit are too valuable in the NFL to let them go for nothing after you've let him spend the first 4 years of his career getting the worst of his lumps out of the way.

Agreed. The smart move is to get some sort of return from nearly four seasons of investment. He would be a capable backup, he has extensive starting experience, still young and a strong arm.

There would be teams out there who would take him to solidfy depth.

Chad Henne is not going to sign a two year contract just to be traded. As an impending free agent, he's not going to sign just anything we shove under his nose, considering the uncertainty of the future in Miami and the fact that he can probably sign an equivalent deal with at least some input in what team he is going to on the open market.

why in the hell would he want to come back here? money? he'll get some money elsewhere. the fans? what a joke, we've wanted to cut off his left nut and feed it to him since year one. the winning team? we're about to rebuild. Nope I can't think of any reason chad would want to return.

Players typically don't know they're going to be traded when they sign contracts unless it's already a sign and trade deal worked out.

What the hell type of contracts do you think are going to be shoved under Chad Henne's nose to begin with....

Miami has to look out for Miami. They're pretty stupid if they don't even.... well... nevermind.

Where the hell did I say he did want to come back?

You make him an offer and find out.

From a business standpoint if your commodity has value you dont give it away easily. What's the harm in offering a multi year contract? If he refuses then hey he goes elsewhere. But if you are Miami and you know you can get something for him then you do reach out.

Speculate to accumulate. In this case a draft pick

no way does he resign. and no way would he come back here. book it.

Do you blame him? Me either.

However, you still have to see if he's interested in staying in Miami, and if he is offer him a contract. That's just common sense.

If I had a nickel for everytime one of you tried to tell me to "book" a complete whiff....

What's the harm? That we'd be on the hook for a good amount of guaranteed money, which we'd be liable for even if Henne were traded for a 7th, and without which Henne wouldn't sign a contract. Chad Henne isn't going to be Drew Brees on the open market, but there are going to be teams willing to throw a couple million at him to back up. And to be fair, he's gonna make a better back-up than most of the guys in that job right now.

Remember come next year he may still be recovering from injury. Which team at that point is going to give big money for a recovering/injured player? We could offer him something reasonable and he would have the security of being on a roster. When he does recover you then look to trade him. Its all ifs and buts.

I don't think we're in disagreement, in fact show me where I said miami wouldn't make him an offer? I said Henne wouldn't sign it. What I don't understand is why you're directing this additude at me... "every one of you"? elitist much?

If he does something went wrong. He would be a very capable backup, but he wouldn't be the best mentor for a young QB, which we should definitely have next year. Hopefully Luck. Dear Lord please let it be Luck.

Depends on our draft placement, and our next head coach IMO.. Henne best chance of staying a Dolphin is if Gruden is our coach, who knows though, he will probably be gone though..
